Runs 766 and 767

Run 766

This week saw eight starters take to the track for the weekly run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra through Warrandyte. Many thanks to Nada for once again running early and then taking on the timekeeping duties.

Two walkers completed the 2 km distance this week. It was great to see Tony back with us, while Paul continued his recovery from injury. In the longer handicapped distances, James was first over the line with an excellently timed run to take out the win. Atsuko followed only 20 seconds behind in second place, while Stephen continued his strong form in the 3 km walk to finish third. Dave came in fourth ahead of Nada in fifth, with Sandi the final runner over the line.

The random sock draw for weeks with eight or more starters produced lucky number 5, meaning Sandi takes home the socks this week.

One personal best time was recorded this week. Congratulations to Atsuko for beating her previous PB by one second. Two other runners finished within 15 seconds of their PBs, with James and Stephen both earning bonus points.

Run 767

It was a lovely morning for the run along the river this week, and many thanks to Dave for taking on the timekeeping duties before completing his own run later.

Tony was the sole walker in the 2 km distance this week. The handicaps in the longer event produced a very exciting finish, with only four seconds separating the first three runners. Nada took out the win, finishing just one second ahead of Atsuko. Both runners overtook Stephen approaching the finish line, with Stephen only two seconds further back in third place. Dave finished in fourth position, while Paul was the final runner over the line.

After the run we celebrated the winner of Season 49. Congratulations to Stephen, who finished the season with 155 points and seven wins. Atsuko finished second with 100 points and three wins. As a reminder, only the best ten runs in a season count towards a runner’s final score. Maximum points are awarded for a win, with bonus points available for finishing within 15 seconds of a personal best and additional points for achieving a new PB.

The next run will be on Saturday 23 May with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.
