Run 479

It was a fabulous morning for a run or a walk along the banks of the Yarra and today's run saw 15 people take to the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 km courses. Thanks to Jacinta for coming down and doing the time-keeping duties this week. It was also good to see Sandi back and running well today. The weather was perfect and this was reflected in the fact that the first ten runners were all within 50 seconds of each other.

Mark was the only person to tackle the 2 km course today. In the longer distances, once the handicaps were taken into consideration, Jozica was first over the line but ran a little too quickly for our rules and came in just before the 30 minute mark today. That left the win open for Kieran in a beautifully timed run. Randall ran into second place just ahead of Nada. Sandi took out third place and Paul came in just ahead of Jon and Kaje (who ran the 6 km distance as three lots of 2 km instead of the usual two lots of 3 km). Atsuko was the tenth person over the line. Rachel managed eleventh place today with Cormick, Adrienne and Alicia the last competitors over the finish line.

There were five personal best times recorded today:
Kaje took another 2 seconds off his previous best time,
Randall sliced 13 more seconds from his PB,
Sandi was 14 seconds quicker than her previous 3 km best,
Kieran took 26 seconds off his time, and
Jozica was 32 seconds better than her previous PB.

Atsuko was the only other person within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 4 August at 7:30 am because of the market on Saturday.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 478

It was a beautiful morning for a run along the banks of the Yarra in Warrandyte today and we had 13 starters across all distances (2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 km). Thanks very much to Jacinta for coming down for the time-keeping duties today and thanks as always to Quintons SUPA IGA for the fruit hamper. At the end of the run it was noticed that there was a platypus playing in the river just behind our start/finish line!

There were two walkers who took on the 2 km course today, Rachel and Mark. In the longer distances, once the handicaps were added in, it was Randall who was first over the line, but he had run too quickly and came in before the 30 minute mark and has broken today. That left the win open for Jozica who was only nine seconds ahead of Jon in second place, with Matthew only one second behind him. Nada ran well into fourth position ahead of James and Kaje. Paul took out seventh place today, just two seconds ahead of Atsuko. Tessa and Adrienne were the last runners over the line.

There were two personal best times recorded today:
Jozica took 20 seconds off her previous best, and
Randall was 29 seconds faster than his previous 4 km PB.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 27 July at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 477

The rain started just as the scratch runners took off at 7:30 this morning. Thankfully it didn't hang around and most of the run was in drier conditions. Thanks to Jacinta for coming down and doing the timekeeping duties this week. We congratulated Margaret at the end of the run for her 100th run with the River Runners. Margaret was one of the earliest runners in the competition, having her first run in Run 4.

Margaret and Mark took on the 2 km course today. In the longer distances, once the handicaps had been added in, there was a dead heat for first place between Paul and Kieran. Randall was only two seconds behind the leaders with Nada and Daniel running close behind. Monica came in sixth place today ahead of Rachel. Steve, Cormick, Matthew and Alicia were the final runners over the finish line today.

There was one Personal Best time recorded today:
Congratulations to Mark who has taken 1 minute and 2 seconds off his previous 2 km walk time.

Two others were within 15 sends of their PB:
Well run Randall and Kieran.

Remember that only your top ten scores can count towards your season total.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 20 July at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 476

It was a lovely morning for a run along the banks of the Yarra River today, the sunrise made for a spectacular view along the river. Thanks to Jacinta for coming down and doing the timekeeping duties today. Congratulations to Randall on his 50th run with the group this morning - keep up the good work. Best wishes for Atsuko and James who are tackling the Gold Coast Marathon this weekend!

Margaret was the only person to take on the 2 km distance today. In the longer distances, after handicaps had been added back in for some people, it was Monica who took out the win today. Kaje came in just one second ahead of Paul with Kieran in fourth place. Cormick (who was in a dead heat for the finish with Kaje having both run 6 km off scratch) ended up in fifth place once his handicap was added in. Randall ran well into sixth position, and Amelia and Nada rounded out today's field.

There were two personal best times recorded this morning:
Monica took 22 seconds off her previous best time, and
Kaje took another 29 seconds off his time from last week.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB this week.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 13 July at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.
