Runs 570 and 571

Run 570

There were seven starters in the run this morning and we thank Jacinta for doing the time-keeping duties for the group this week.

In the shortest (unhandicapped) distance there were two competitors: Jacinta and Paul. In the longer distances Jon was the first runner home, ahead of Tessa. Jozica came in just behind her. Tony managed fourth place with Nada the last runner over the line.

There was one personal best time recorded today: well run Tessa who beat her previous PB by 11 seconds. Two others were within 15 seconds of their PB: great running Jon and Jozica.

I forgot to acknowledge in last week's report that Nada has reached the amazing milestone of being the first ever Warrandyte River Runner to have run 350 runs with the group. This is a wonderful achievement. Nada had been running with the group since January 2013 and has been our most frequent time-keeper. Thanks for all of your hard work and well done on achieving this feat.

Run 571

It was a cold morning that saw six starters in the run along the banks of the Yarra this morning. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties for us this week.

In the 2 km distance, there were two runners/walkers: Paul and Jacinta. In the longer distances, it was Jon who was first over the line this morning, followed very closely by Jozica. Atsuko was not all that far behind in third and only 5 seconds ahead of Nada's time once it had the handicap added in.

There were no personal best times recorded this morning and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 5 June at 7:30am. We will then begin a trial of starting the timer at 7:15am on Saturdays.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 569

There were eight starters in the run along the banks of the Yarra this morning. The rain held off for our run, which made it a pleasant morning. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the timekeeping duties this week.

Paul was the only person taking on the 2km distance this week, walking with his dogs. In the longer, handicapped distances the first person over the line was Tony followed by Hayden. Harrison and Atsu managed third and fourth place. Jon was less than ten seconds ahead of Nada in the race for fifth position and Jozica was the last person over the line today.

Harrison was the only person to run a PB this week in his first 5km run with us. No-one else managed to be within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 21 May at 7:30am. Come along for a run before you go to do your democratic duty!

We awarded the trophy for the winner of the past two seasons (as a combined season due to COVID lockdowns). The winner was Hayden with an amazing 162 points from his top ten runs for the combined seasons. Second place was Jon with a total of 95 points.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 568

This week's run was on Mothers' Day and we hope that all of the mothers in this group had a wonderful day on Sunday. We welcomed Karla to the group for her first run with us this week and hope to see her back joining the group when she can. This was the first run of the new season.

Paul was the only person to take on the shorter distance this week, walking the 2 km distance. In the longer distances, it was Jozica who was first over the line in a perfectly timed run. She was followed by Atsuko, Tony and Alicia with only seconds separating the three runners. Karla was allocated her first handicap which brought her in as the last runner this week.

There were two runners who managed personal best times on Sunday: Jozica beat her previous PB by 22 seconds and Karla obtained a PB for her first ever run.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 14 May at the later time of 7:30am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.
