Run 647 and 648

Run 647

It was a wet morning that saw six runners brave the morning run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra. Thanks to Nada for once again running early and doing the time-keeping duties this week.

Atsuko was the winner of the run this week coming in just after the 30 minute mark. Dave managed second place, just seconds ahead of Paul. Nada ran well into fourth place with Monica and Jozica the last runners over the line this week.

Nobody managed a personal best time, and no one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Run 648

It was a beautiful morning for the run along the banks of the river through Warrandyte today. Thanks to Colin for coming along to do the timing for the group today (and to Steve for his moral support).

Tony went for a walk this morning, rather than his usual run. Paul managed a win this morning, coming in at exactly 30 minutes. Jozica managed to beat Nada in for second place. Harrison came in fourth, just seconds ahead of Atsuko and Monica was the last runner over the line.

There were no personal best times recorded today, but three runners were within 15 seconds of their PB: Paul, Jozica and Nada.

Next week will be our last run of the season, and it will be on Saturday 23 December and will be a "mass start" as is the tradition for the final run. All runners will be leaving the start/finish line at 7:30 am. There will be NO RUN on the next week (30 December) and we will start the new year's season on 6 January 2024.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 644 and 645

 Run 644

There were five starters in the run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra this week. Thanks very much to Colin for coming along to assist with the time-keeping duties. Everybody ran off scratch and the handicaps were added on afterwards.

Jozica was the first person home this week in a well timed run. She managed to beat out Nada who ran very well into second place. Monica was third person over the line with Jon and Atsuko rounding out the field this week.

Nobody managed a Personal Best time this week, but Nada was within 15 seconds of her PB.

Run 645

It was fabulous to see 10 people show up for the run this week, and Colin came along again to do the time-keeping for the group. With 10 people we decided to have a random number draw to win a pair of socks. The random number to come up was 9, so the ninth runner in the list for this week will receive the prize: congratulations to Monica.

It was great to see Jacinta back running 2 km with the group this week. In the longer (handicapped) distances Alex was the first person over the line this week, managing to come in seconds before Paul. Atsuko was only just behind in third place. Nada continued to run strong, coming in fourth place this week, only one second ahead of Jozica. Jon took out sixth place with Tony in seventh. Renee was the eighth person home, leaving Monica as the last person over the line.

There was one personal best time this week as Alex took a massive 44 seconds off his previous 3 km run time. What a great improvement. Nobody else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week there will be a market on Saturday morning, so the run will again be on Sunday 3 December with the timer starting at 7:30.

We are hoping to have "Christmas catch up/breakfast" on Sunday 17 December after our run (there will be another market on Saturday 16 December). The plan is to go to River View Cafe for breakfast following the run.

Run 642 and 643

Run 642

On the Sunday of the Melbourne Cup "long weekend" there were only two starters in the run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra through Warrandyte. Thanks go, once again, to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties.

With only two runners, and running independently of each other, it was amazing that once the handicaps were added to the times, there was only two seconds between first and second place. Nada took out the win this week, with Tony in second place.

Nobody managed a personal best time or was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Run 643

It was quite a warm morning that saw six starters in the run along the river today. Thanks to Nada for being the time-keeper after her run. We welcomed a new runner, Alex, who started with us this morning. Hopefully we will continue to see you running with the group in the future.

After handicaps were added onto the times (as most people decided to run off scratch today), it was new runner, Alex, who managed the win today, beating Paul by six seconds, and achieving the maximum points for his run. In third place this wee was Jon, only five seconds ahead of Nada. Renee managed fifth place and Jozica was the last runner over the line.

Only Alex managed a personal best time today, and nobody else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 18 November with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

It was a very close run this morning with the first five runners coming in within 22 seconds of each other. Jozica was the first runner over the line this week in her second win of the season. Atsuko was only four seconds behind her in second place. Paul managed to take out third position ahead of Jon. And Harrison was the final runner over the line today.

Nobody managed to run a Personal Best time this week and no one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 5 November starting at 7:30 am

This is the Melbourne Cup "long" weekend and the market will be on Saturday.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 640

It was a much warmer start to the day for the weekly run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra through Warrandyte today. Thanks once again to Nada for running early and then doing the time-keeping duties. It was great to see Monica back after a break from running with us.

Monica took on the 3 km distance this morning and managed to be the first person over the line once the handicaps were added onto the run times. She did manage to run too quickly today based on her previous 3 km times and came in before the 30 minute mark. That left the win open and it was a race between Nada and Paul for the big points for first place this week. Nada managed to just beat Paul in by two seconds, giving her the win and Paul second place. Jozica continues to run consistently and managed third place today.

Monica was the only person to beat their previous personal best time this week, taking a huge 42 seconds off her previous PB. Nobody else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 28 October with the timer beginning at 7:30am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 639

The weather was great for the run along the banks of the river in Warrandyte this morning even if there were a few puddles to be avoided along the way. There were eight starters in the run this morning and it was great to see Renee back after a bit of a break from the group. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties once more this week.

This week saw Nada come in first over the line once her handicap had been added onto her run time, and she managed to beat Paul by four seconds. Dave was only about 20 seconds behind in third place and just ahead of Atsuko. Tony came in fifth this morning, with Renee in sixth position. James and Jozica were the last runners over the line today.

Nobody managed a personal best time this morning and no-one was within 15 second of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 21 October with the timer being set off at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Warrandyte River Runners Run 638

It was great to see seven people in the weekly run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra this morning even though the weather had taken a turn and become colder. We had to run along the top path and through the car park as the river had risen over our regular running track this week. Thanks very much to Nada who continues to run early and then do the time-keeping duties for the group.

This week saw Paul take out first place ahead of Nada. Jon finished in third place only seconds ahead of Dave after the handicaps had been applied. Tony managed fifth place, and Atsuko and Jozica rounded out the field this week.

Nobody managed to run a personal best time and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 14 October with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 637

It has been a few weeks since I have managed to update the blog site and details. The results of runs 634-636 can be found in the link below.

This week saw five starters in the run along the banks of the Yarra-Birrarung in Warrandyte. Thanks once more to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties this week.

Everyone decided to run off scratch this week, and once the handicaps were added back onto the times it was Tony who managed to come away with the win with Nada in second place. Jon was third over the line ahead of Paul and James who were the last to finish this week.

It was a slower run today with nobody managing a personal best time and no-one within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 8 October with the timer starting at 7:30 am

We have decided to keep Saturday runs beginning at 7:30 for the moment, instead of going back to 7:00 am as we sometimes do over the Daylight Savings months. If the group decides to change this I will let everyone now.

Run 633

It was a chilly start to Fathers' Day that saw six runners in the run along the bank of the Yarra Birrarung in Warrandyte this morning. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties once more this week.

It was a quick run this morning and the first person over the line in a perfectly timed run, coming in at exactly 30 minutes, was Harrison. Dave was less than 30 seconds behind him in second place, just outrunning Paul in third. Nada managed fourth position once her handicap was added to her run time, and there was nothing to separate Tony and Atsuko who were the final runners over the line today.

Two people managed to run within 15 seconds of the Personal Best times this morning, well done to Harrison and Paul. A huge congratulations to Dave who managed to beat his previous PB for the 3 km distance by 2 seconds.

The presentations for last season were held this morning, with the winner of the Open Section and recipient of the "Jodi and Rob Clarke Trophy" being Atsuko who managed to gain 113 points from 14 runs including 6 wins for the season. In second place was Nada with 77 points from 14 runs including 2 wins. In the Under 18 Section, the winner of the "Peter Cross Memorial Trophy" was Harrison who gained 42 points from his 8 runs for the season, narrowly beating Troy who came in with 41 points from his 5 runs. Well done to all 12 people who ran with us during Season 41.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 9 September with the clock starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 621 and 632

Run 631

With only three runners this morning there were some big points up for grabs towards the end of the season. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties again.

Nada was the first person over the line after the 30 minute mark today, with Paul is second place. Jozica was the last runner and gained points for third place today.

Nobody ran a personal best time or was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Run 632

There were five starters in the run along the banks of the Yarra this week. Thanks once more to Nada for running early and being the time-keeper in this last run of the season. The rest of the runners all ran from scratch and the handicaps were added afterwards.

Paul managed to be the first person over the finish line once the handicaps were included in the times. Jozica came in second not far behind him and just ahead of Atsuko. Nada managed fourth place and Harrison was the last person over the line after running his 6 km.

As this was the last run of the season, we do not post the final table until after the announcement of the winners and presentation of awards.

It was a small group that started out in the run this morning, with some drizzle as we ran this may have deterred people from coming. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties again this week.

With so few people in the run, there were lots of points available to those who came along. Paul was first over the line, picking up the 17 points for this and boosting him up the points table. Nada managed second and gained an extra 6 points for her run and Jozica, in third place picked up 5 points as well.

Nobody managed to gain the extra points on offer for a Personal Best time or for running within 15 seconds of their PB.

That left the win open for Atsuko who came in ahead of Paul who was in second place. Jon took out third place ahead of Tony. Adrienne came in sixth and Nada was the last runner over the line today.

There was one person to run within 15 seconds of their personal best time: congratulations Atsuko. And one person managed a personal best time with Dave taking 32 seconds off his previous 3 km best.

It was a very exciting finish today with Harrison running a perfectly-timed race to come in at exactly 30 minutes and avoid breaking. The next three runners - Dave, Tony and Atsuko - had only 4 seconds between them as they ran across the finish line. Nada came in fifth place and Paul was the last person over the line this morning.

Runs 621 and 622

 Run 621

Thanks to Atsuko for doing the timekeeping duties for this week. It was great to see Troy and Zhann return to have another go at the run this week.

Atsuko was the only person to take on the 2 km distance this week. Harrison was the first person over the line after the 30 minute mark in his first 6 km run with the group. Jon came in second, while Zhann and Troy were the last runners over the line today.

There were two personal best times recorded apart from people running their distance for the first time: Troy took 6 minutes and 26 seconds off his previous 6 km best time, and Atsuko took a massive 8 minutes and 5 seconds off her previous 2 km best.

Run 622

It was a lovely morning for the weekly run along the banks of the Yarra in Warrandyte. Thanks to Nada for running early and then doing the time-keeping duties this week.

Paul was the only person running the shorter, unhandicapped 2 km distance today. In the longer distances, Troy was the first over the line, but ran too quickly based on his previous 3 km time and finished before the 30 minute mark. This left the win open for Nada this week. Astuko took out second place ahead of Tony and Jozica was the last person over the line this week.

One person managed a personal best time this week: Congratulations to Troy who took 3 minutes and 55 seconds off his previous 3 km time. Great running.

Run 615 and 616

Run 615

There were five starters in the final run of Season 40, thanks to Nada for doing the time-keeping duties this week. As has been the tradition we had a mass start for the final run and then handicaps were added on afterwards so that people are not aware of their finishing positions.

Paul was the only runner to take on the 2 km distance, walking his dogs this week. In the longer distances, Jon managed to come in as the winner ahead of Atsuko. Nada took out third position and Jozica was the final person over the line.

Nobody managed a personal best time over their chosen distance this week, but Jon was within 15 seconds of his 5 km PB.

Run 616

This week saw four people starting the first run in Season 41 with Nada once more running early and doing the timekeeping duties.

Paul took on the 2 km distance again, but running this week instead of walking. Atsuko was the first person over the line after the 30 minute mark ahead of Nada with Jozica the last runner home today.

Nobody was quick enough to manage a personal best time and no one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

After the run we had the presentation for Season 40. In the Open section, the winner of the season with 104 points including 4 wins was Paul. In second place on 75 points with 3 wins was Atsuko, and on 72 points in third place for the season was Nada. In the "kids" section Harrison managed to gain 42 points from 7 runs including one win for the season.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 13 May with the clock starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 614

It was a mild morning that saw three runners start in the run along the banks of the Yarra this week. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the timekeeping duties.

With only three runners there was plenty of opportunity to gather some points. After the handicaps were added it was a very close finish for all three runners. Paul managed first place, with Atsuko only three seconds behind him and Nada was just 12 seconds back.

Nobody managed to run a personal best time or to be within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week is the final run of this season and we will have our traditional "mass start" with everybody taking off at 7:30 am on Saturday 29 April.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Saturday, April 15, 2023

Run 613

It was a lovely morning for the run along the banks of the Yarra and Paul was on timekeeping duties this week and ran his 3 km early for that.

Jon ran 3 km again this week and continues to improve his time, meaning that he has once again broken and come in before the 30 minute mark. That left the win open and Atsuko took it out this week, she managed to nudge Paul into second place by 1 second. Tony was only 9 seconds behind them in third place, and Dave was less than 30 seconds behind him.

There was one personal best time recorded this week with Jon taking another 1 minute and 34 seconds off his previous 3 km best. No-one else was with 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 22 April at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Saturday, April 8, 2023

Run 612

Six runners came this morning for the run along the banks of the Yarra River in Warrandyte. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties this week.

Nobody took on the 2 km distance today, so all runners ran off their handicap times or had their handicaps addd on after they had run. Jon was the first runner over the line this morning, but managed to come in before the 30 minute mark and was recorded as breaking. That left the wi open for Paul who came in ahead of Harrison in second place. Nada took out third position with Atsuko and Jozica only eight seconds apart in fourth and fifth places respectively.

There was one PB recorded this week: Paul continued to take another 10 seconds off his previous week's run time. One other person was within 15 seconds of their PB: well run Jon.

With three runs remaining in the season it is a good time to remind everyone that only the points from your 10 best runs each season are allocated to your total.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 15 April at 7:30 am. We will be starting the timer at 7:30 each week to avoid any overlap with other running groups.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 611

It was a cooler morning, but much brighter with the change of daylight saving time. There were six starters in the run, and thanks to Atsuko for bringing Amy along to do the timing before going for your walk.

Atsuko was the only person to take on the 2 km distance this week. In the longer, handicapped distances Paul was the first person over the line, but he came in before the 30 minute mark and was recorded as a break. That left the win open for the next person across the line, which was Nada. Tony managed to come in second place and Jozica and Monica rounded out the competitors this week.

The results this week have pushed Nada to the top of the season ladder, ahead of Paul by one point. It looks like it may be a close season.

There were two personal best times recorded this week: Paul beat his previous 3 km PB by 37 seconds and Atsuko took 13 seconds off her 2 km walk time. No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 15 April at 7:30 am. We will be starting the clock as close to 7:30 as possible so that we do not overlap with Park Run.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Saturday, March 25, 2023

Run 610

It was a bit cooler for the run this morning, but that didn't deter five runners coming along to start at 7:30. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties again this week.

Once all of the handicaps had been applied to times it was Paul who managed to take out the win this week ahead of Atsuko in second place. Nada managed to take out third place ahead of Tony and Jozica was the last person over the line.

There was one PB recorded this week - Paul managed to take six seconds off his best time. Nobody else was within 15 seconds of their PB,

Next week the run will be on Sunday due to the Warrandyte Riverside Market on Saturday morning. So the run will be at 7:30 am on Sunday 2 April (and this is also the end of Daylight Savings Time, so clocks will go back an hour).

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 609

This weekend saw only two runners for the Saturday morning start. Thanks to Nada for running early and then doing the timing for my run.

Next weekend is the Warrandyte Festival, and we have decided not to have a run at all over that time. So the next scheduled run will be Saturday 25 March and we will begin the run at 7:30 am (Please note the change of start time - it is too dark for Nada to run early as she so often does).

Paul managed to get the win in this week, and Nada took out second place!

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 608

It was still very muggy when a group of six runners gathered to run this week. Thanks to Atsuko for coming along and doing the time-keeping duties this week.

Atsuko took on the 3 km distance after starting everyone on their runs, and managed to be the quickest runner once her handicap had been included into her run time. Tony managed second place ahead of Monica. Jon and Paul were only seconds apart in fourth and fifth places and Jozica was the last runner over the line.

Nobody managed to run a personal best time and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week our run would normally be on Sunday, but that is the date for Run Warrandyte, so we will be moving our run to Thursday evening. We will meet at our usual place at 7:30 pm on Thursday 2 March to begin (hopefully there will be enough light at the end of the run at 8:00).

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 607

The hot weather had calmed down a bit but it was still very muggy for the run song the banks of the Yarra River in Warrandyte this week. Five starters took on the course running 2, 3 and 5 km distances. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties this week.

Only Paul took on the 2 km, unhandicapped distance. In the longer distances Atsuko managed to be the first person over the line after the 30 minute mark. She was followed by Nada in second place this week. Harrison took out fourth place and Jozica was the last runner over the line.

Nobody managed a personal best time or was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 25 February beginning at 7:00 am. We will be running through the set up for the Pottery Festival but this does not normally affect our run.

The following week will be the weekend for Run Warrandyte. Since the fun run occurs on Sunday when we would normally run, we usually move our run to the Thursday evening before (2 March) so watch out for the start time for that run.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 606

 Hi all,

It's been a couple of weeks since I managed to get a post up for the River Runners, but here are the details of the latest run. I have updated the blog site with the results of previous runs under the Weekly Runs link.

There were six starters in the run completing 4, 5 and 6km distances. First over the line this week was Monica followed closely by Atsuko. Tony managed to take out third place ahead of Jozica. Nada and Harrison were the last runners to finish.

Nobody managed to run a personal best time and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

The next run will be on Saturday 18 Feb (tomorrow) at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

We celebrated the fact that River Runners has had over 600 starts with a BBQ and our presentation of awards for Season 39. The kids trophy was taken home by Harrison, while the overall competition was won by Atsuko with 109 points from 13 runs (only the top ten runs count towards your total). This included 6 wins during the season. In second place was Jon with 73 points from 9 runs which included two wins.

Congratulations to everyone who ran with us during Season 39.

Run 603

We are back up and running for 2023. We have started the year off with a few smaller runs but this week saw eight people start in the run along the banks of the Yarra River in Warrandyte. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties for this week and to Jacinta for timing the previous two runs while many were away.

This week there was one person completing the 2 km distance: Jacinta. In the longer, handicapped distances it was Harrison who was first over the line, but running too quickly and coming in before the 30 minute mark and therefore breaking this week. That left the win open for a beautifully timed run from Alicia coming in just after 30 minutes. Monica took out second place with Paul in third. Atsuko managed to come in fourth this week and Nada and Jozica were the last two runners over the line.

There was one personal best time recorded this week: Harrison took one minute and four seconds off his previous PB for the 5 km distance. No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 28 January at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Celebration for 600 runs

We recently ran our 600th run as a group as were hoping to celebrate this achievement. We will  be holding a sausage sizzle at the barbecues near our starting line after our run on SUNDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2023. Come along to the gazebo/rotunda at the bottom of Stiggants Reserve to join us. Anyone with a connection to the River Runners (past runners, family, friends, etc) is welcome to join us. The run is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am and finish at 8:00 am so we will be starting the cooking soon after that.

Please let us know by emailing wrrunners@gmail.com if you can come along to help us celebrate. We will provide the sausages (meat and vegan) and fixings. Bring anything else you may wish.

We will also be announcing the winner of last season at this event.
