Run 294

With only 8 runners/walkers showing up there was a chance at points for everyone and Steve chose to walk 2km today as he is still getting over his hamstring strain.

First over the line today was Peter, closely followed by Jacinta. Jessica was running well and managed third place. Dennis managed to beat Paul by 5 seconds and Jon and Tessa rounded out the field taking on the longer distances.

There was only the one PB this week being Jacinta who beat her previous best at the 3km distance by 10 seconds.

There is a Warrandyte Christmas Market on by the river next Saturday so the run will be on SUNDAY 20 December and will be the last run of the season. Because it is the last run it will be a MASS START with everyone beginning their run at 7:30am. Please try to make sure you are there for the start.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 293

There were 15 runners on Sunday, including the "founders" of the group - welcome back to Jodi and Rob who were down from Queensland for the weekend. It was great to see you.

Thanks to Atsuko for doing the timing this morning - I think it got a little hectic at times.

Jacinta was first over the line today in a personal best time, so she picked up the maximum 20 points. Nada, Niels, Lisa and Cam were all within only 6 seconds of Jacinta's time. Tessa and Emma were 14 seconds back and Rob was just behind them. The next group in was led by Peter, followed by Dennis, Paul and Jozica.

Jodi had her finish time adjusted, due to leaving early and ended up just behind Jozica. Alicia and Steve also had adjusted finish times.

There were two Personal Best times recorded today:
Jacinta beat her previous best by 1 second and
Emma ran 4 seconds faster than her previous best.

Three people were within 15 seconds of their PB:
Niels, Lisa and Cam.

Well done to everyone.

After the run, most of us went to the Warrandyte Cafe for an end-of-year breakfast and a chance to sit down and chat.

The run next week is on Saturday 12 December at 7:00am.

There are only two more runs for the current season, and we will not run between Christmas and the New Year.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 292

With only seven starters this morning there were some easy points up for grabs.

Steve started out very well, but after a "twinge" in his hamstring decided to switch to a 2km walk. Lisa was on fire this morning running the 4km course, managing to come in more than 1 minute 30 before the 30 minute mark, which left the way open for Lisa to arrive just after the 30 minutes. She took out the win today, with a personal best time so managed to pick up the maximum 20 points for this week, shooting her to second on the leaderboard for this season.

Atsuko continues to run extremely well, coming in second place today. Jozica was not too far behind in third and then a little further back to myself and then Tessa.

There were two personal best times recorded this week:
Lisa beat her previous best by an amazing 1 minute 57 seconds - great running.
Jacinta was 28 seconds faster than her previous best.

Atsuko was the only other person within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 6 December (market weekend) at 7:30am and we will then go off to breakfast afterwards at Warrandyte Cafe - don't forget to let me know if you are coming so I can give them an idea of numbers. Send me an email to wrrunners@gmail.com to confirm if you haven't already.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 291

It was looking like it might be a wet run this morning, but the rain held off at just the right times to allow the 12 starters to run without getting wet.

We welcomed Doug H to the group this morning for his first run at the 5km course and hope to see him again. Ed continues to run the 2km distance very consistently.

There were quite a few time adjustments as several people went off at different times to their handicaps, but the overall outcome was that Jacinta was first over the line, but was way too fast for the 30 minute cut off time, so has broken this week - great running. That left Lisa to take out the win today, being the first runner over the line after the 30 minute mark. She was closely followed by Atsuko and Nada who are both running very well.

Doug, as it was his first run, had his time adjusted to 31 minutes and came in equal with Jon, and I was only 25 seconds behind them. Tessa, Adrienne and Catherine all managed times within 1 second of each other and Alicia rounded out the field.

As people are starting to hit the 10 run mark for the season, the points will be harder to pick up for them. Only your top 10 runs for the season count towards your consistency points. Points are awarded for finishing, finishing in the first 6 places after 30 minutes or up to 5 places before 30 minutes, running a personal best and running within 15 seconds of your personal best time at that distance. All details are listed below.

There was one PB recorded this week:
Well done to Jacinta who cut off 2 minutes 34 seconds from her previous PB at the 4km distance.

Three runners were within 15 seconds of their PB:
Congratulations on consistent running to Ed, Atsuko and Lisa.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 28 November at 7:00am.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

End-of-Year get together

We are going to Warrandyte Cafe for breakfast after the first run in December (Sunday 6 December). All runners and any other family members are invited to come along and have a chat something to eat or drink together. Please let me know by email as soon as possible (wrrunners@gmail.com) if you are coming so that I can let the cafe know numbers. Hope to see you there.

Runs 289 and 290

Run 289

12 people showed up to run this morning, including new runner, Adrienne, who ran a 5km distance, Ed who stepped up to the 3km distance, and Barbara and Chantelle who walked the 2km. Stewart also ran the 2km course.

I was first over the line this week, closely followed by Peter N (I could almost feel him breathing down my neck). Nada managed to just beat Caitlin over the line for third place. Peter continues to run the 4km course and beat home Jon and Tessa this week.

There was one Personal best recorded this week:
well done to Peter N who beat his previous time by 33 seconds.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Run 290

It felt a bit cold to begin with, but we all warmed up pretty quickly this morning. 11 runners showed up to take on the 2, 3, 4 and 5km courses.

Ed was the only runner in the 2km distance, and continues to run very well. Nada ran 3km, her first run at this distance for a while. After a bit of adjustment for handicaps, Jacinta was the first over the line after the 30 minute mark, so has won the event this week. Three runners went out very quickly and have broken by coming in before 30 minutes: Catherine, Atsuko and Jozica (who missed out on the win by 1 second).

Adrienne continues to run well and beat her time from last week. Tessa and Steve came in fairly close together, with Paul and Alicia at the back of the field.

There were three Personal Best times recorded this week:
Catherine beat her previous best by 1 minute 30 seconds - fabulous work!
Atsuko ran 34 seconds faster than her previous best, and
Adrienne was 30 seconds faster than last week.

Two people, Jozica and Ed, were within 15 seconds of their previous best times.

Well done to all runners.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 21 November at 7:00 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

END-OF-YEAR FUNCTION

We would like to have our end-of-year get together this year after the first run in December (Sunday 6 December). We thought that after the run we could go to the Warrandyte Cafe in Yarra Street for breakfast.

I would like to let the cafe know how many might be attending, so could you please send me an email to let me know if you can go: wrrunners@gmail.com

Cheers

Paul

Run 288

The rain and thunder from overnight on Friday had died away by the time the run started on Saturday morning. Maybe it was the weather and maybe it was the Melbourne Cup "long weekend", but there were only six starters for the run.

Atsuko, fresh from her marathon run, took off like a rocket and ran past everyone in front of her, finishing just before the 30 minute mark and so not quite managing to get the full points.

Jacinta ran a good time for her 3km, and this ensured her the win for this week. Nada and Paul were not too far behind her, with only three seconds separating them. Daniel suffered from a bit of asthma and so walked some of the distance, but still managed a reasonable time.

There was only 1 PB earned this week:
well done to Atsuko who beat her previous PB by 10 seconds.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week's run will be on SUNDAY 8 November at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

No socks this week (not 10 runners).

Run 287

Saturday was a lovely morning and saw 12 starters for the run.

It was great to see Ed back for another run at the 2km distance, and he was joined by Atsuko in her first 2km run (with Amy) and Harrison.

Peter was again the first person over the finish line after the 30 minute mark, giving him his fourth win for the season so far (out of 8 runs). Nada and Paul were close behind with Jacinta and Lisa on their heels. Jozica was also only about 30 seconds behind Peter.

Tessa, Jon and Dennis rounded out the placings for the longer distances.

There were no personal best times and no-one was within 15 seconds of their personal best this week.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 31 October at 7:00 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Run 286

It was great to see 13 starters for the run on Saturday, and we welcomed another new runner, Ed, who ran the 2km course.

Lisa was racing through the course and came in well before the 30 minute mark, so missed out on maximum points. The first runner over the line after 30 minutes was Jacinta who was closely followed by four guys: Andrew was one second ahead of Dennis and Paul, with Peter N only two seconds further back.

Peter was next, not too far behind the main pack, and then Atsuko and Jon also had a sprint finish with Atsuko taking the line honours by one second. Steve, Tessa and Alicia rounded out today's field.

There were two Personal Best times recorded:
Lisa slammed her previous PB, and
Peter N.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 24 October at 7:00 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

The socks this week went to Andrew.

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Run 285

It was perfect conditions for running this morning and we had 13 starters for the run.

Pete, Tessa, Emma and Caitlin took on the 4km course, Barbara walked 2km and the other eight ran the 5km course.

Jacinta had a great run, but unfortunately came in just before the magical 30 minute mark and is therefore classed as a break for this this week. Peter had a beautifully time run crossing the line at 30:01 and taking out this week's run in a personal best time, therefore earning himself the maximum points.

Lisa, Atsuko and Nada all finished within the next 30 seconds. Monica and Jozica crossed the line together just behind them. Emma and Caitlin also finished in under 31 minutes. Paul, Tessa, Stephanie and Bec finished a bit further back.

There were 4 Personal best times today:
Peter by 29 seconds,
Emma by 7 seconds,
Lisa by 58 seconds, and
Jacinta by 1 minute and 5 seconds. Great running guys!

Atsuko was also within 15 seconds of her PB.

Next week's run will be at 7:00 am on Saturday 17 October.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Runs 283 and 284

Over the school holidays there were two runs.

Run 283 saw seven runners start off, and Kaje came in well under the 30 minute mark. 3 new runners also joined us: welcome to Josh, Peter N ad Sam M.

Michelle ran the shorter 3 km course and Monica and Peter both ran well.

PBs were run by Kaje and Peter.

Run 284 also saw seven runners start with one new runner: welcome to Daniel.

No PBs were recorded this week.

After the survey, it looks like the vast majority want to run on Saturday morning at 7:00 each week and 7:30 on a Sunday when the market is on.

That means the run will be on Saturday 10 October at 7:00am. We hope to see you down by the lizard to start.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage the season.

Run 282

It was a great morning for a run, and 19 people came down to the pavilion near the lizard to run this morning. Thanks to Steve for coming down to do the timing.

Barbara was back to walk the 2km track this morning, and was the only person completing that distance. In the longer runs, our new runners from last week, Michelle and Jaime, were both in fine form, coming in before the 30 minute mark.

The first runner after 30 minutes was Peter with a very well timed run this morning, but right behind him were Monica, Atsuko, Emma and Jozica - the last three in a tight group over the line. Jacinta, Nada and Dennis came in close together, and Tessa beat Neils home with a sprint to the line.

After a time adjustment, I came in next before Caitlin and Alan and Janette.

There were 4 PBs recorded this morning:
Michelle was running faster than her time last week, beating it by 1 minute and 40 seconds,
Jaime also showed improvement, beating last week's time by 1 minute and 25 seconds,
Peter beat his previous best by 3 seconds, and
Emma ran well to beat hers by 13 seconds.

One person was within 15 seconds of their PB - well done to Monica.

We presented the awards from last season this morning.

In the kids section, the winner was Tessa, and the runner-up was Alicia.

For the Open section, the winner was Atsuko on 119 points for the season with 4 wins, and the runner up was Tessa on 91 points with 3 wins.

Well done to everyone who ran.

In other news, it is wonderful to hear that past runners Lincoln and Marianne have had a baby boy and named him John. Congratulations to you both from everyone at River Runners.

The run next week will be on Saturday 26 September at 7:30 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Socks this week to Emma.

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Run 281

We welcomed two new runners this morning, Michelle and Jaime, who ran the 4km and 3 km distances respectively. That takes the total number of runners that have run with us over the past 18 seasons to more than 150.

It was a lovely morning and there were 15 starters. Emma was back for her second run at 3km, and she proved to be the fastest over the course. Nada was the only other person to finish in under 31 minutes. Atsuko, Jozica and I all finished within the next minute (although I had to stop after 3km and readjust my time).

There were three "pairs" of runners out today, in Bec and Stephanie, Alicia and Tessa, and Alan and Janette who are getting back into running after their trek on the Camino de Santiago.

Stewart and Jon rounded out the field for the day.

There was only one person running better than their personal best this week:
Emma by 42 seconds - well done.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next run will be on Saturday 19 September at 7:30am and we hope to have the trophies ready for the presentation of the awards from season 17.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 280

We had assumed that there would be a small number of starters for the run on Sunday as it was Fathers' Day, so it was very surprising to have 19 starters there! Unfortunately Lisa and Jacinta didn't finish their 3km runs after a run-in with a dog saw Lisa take a fall. Thanks to Monica for doing the timekeeping this week.

There were two new runners starting for this new season, and Sandi ran the 4 km course while Lily ran the 2 km course with her dad and grandparents. Welcome to you both, and we hope to see you down running again soon.

Lots of people were running quickly, with 4 people coming in before the 30 minute mark: Niels, Nada, Catherine and Andrew (who broke by 1 second). These people can't get the maximum points as that is for people who come in at 30 minutes or after.

First place, therefore, went to Jozica, with Peter and Alicia only seconds behind her. Sandi came in next, after her handicap was adjusted for a first run. It was a sprint finish for Atsuko and Paul, and the timer was unable to separate them over the finish line. Stewart and Tessa rounded out the main field over the longer distances.

Owen came in first over the 2 km course.

There were 3 PBs obtained this week apart from the new runners:
Niels beat his previous best by 1 minute 34 seconds - wow,
Catherine improved by 33 seconds, and
Alicia improved her best by 3 seconds.

3 people were within 15 seconds of their PB:
Peter, Tessa and Owen.

Well done to all runners.

Next week the run is on Saturday at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Socks this week go to Nada.

Run 279

No update to the Consistency Table or Results Table today to keep a few things secret until the big announcement of this Season's winners.

I will say that even though it was a mass start this morning with everyone leaving at the same time, there were a lot of people running hard today.

Three people ran a distance they hadn't run before, and six others picked up personal best times! The other four of us were not within 15 seconds of our PBs, though.

It was quite a cold morning but the rain held off, and it was great to see a bit of competition happening even if the times were going to be adjusted. Tessa refuses to be beaten by Peter, and Alicia was just flying today.

Next week Season 18 kicks off with the run on Sunday morning at 7:30 am. We know it is Fathers' Day, but come along if you can.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage through the season.

Socks this week go to Catherine.

Run 277 and 278

Sorry I missed getting the blog updated last week, but here is a summary of the last two runs:

Welcome to three new runners for this week. Lisa, Sam and Jasmine. Lisa and Jasmine ran the 3km course and Sam took on the 5km.

There were lots of adjustments to times as people didn't all run off their handicap times, but overall it was a win to Stewart, followed fairly closely by Atsuko. After time adjustments for their first runs, the new runners came in next, with Steve and Jozica just after the 31 minute mark.

Nada continues to run well and was next, followed by Jacinta and Jon, with Tessa and Alicia bringing up the rear.

There was only one person with a personal best this week:
Stewart by 1 seconds - good running to earn the maximum 20 points for this week.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Socks for this week went to Sam

For the next run (278):

Thanks Monica for doing the timing for this weekend.

Alicia took off and flew through the 3km course, coming in well under the magical 30 minute mark and therefore missing out on those maximum points. That left Atsuko to take out the first position for the day, coming in at 30 minutes exactly! Well timed, Atsuko. Jozica was also running well and was only a few seconds behind her.

Catherine continues to improve her times, and came in third place in front of Steve.

It was a very exciting sprint finish between Peter and Tessa, and the time-keeper was unable to separate them in the end.

Dennis, Nada, Paul and Jon rounded out the field for the day.

There were three PBs set today:
Alicia beat her previous best by an amazing 2 minutes 36,
Atsuko beat hers by 12 seconds, and
Catherine by 53 seconds.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

The next run will be on 29 August and is the final run for the current season and will therefore be a MASS START. Please make sure you are at the starting point by 7:30 am as we will all be starting together.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any time during the season.

Socks for run 278 go to Paul :)

Saturday, August 8, 2015

Run 276

The rain held off just enough for us to have a good run along the river. Thanks to Monica for coming along to do the timing this morning.

We welcomed a new runner to the group in Catherine who ran the 5 km course today. We hope to see you running with us again soon.

There were a few alterations to starting times again this week as we had some runners starting a little bit later than their handicap times. With adjustments, the results are:

Cam came in first, but was under the 30 minute mark, so didn't get the maximum points. Alicia and Tessa ran the 4 km course together and managed to be the first across the line after the 30 minute mark. Excellent running, girls!

Atsuko continues to run well, coming in in third place, just ahead of Steph and Bec and then Nada. New runner, Catherine, was next just ahead of Jozica. Peter and Jon rounded out the main field and Paul ran the 2 km course.

Overall, there were 6 PBs this week:
Cam came in 1 minute 30 seconds ahead of his PB,
Stephanie and Bec were 27 seconds under their PB,
Alicia and Tessa beat their previous best by 24 seconds, and
Paul beat his 2 km PB by just over a minute.

Good running everyone!

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Our next run is on Saturday August 15 at 7:30 am.

Don't forget that you can like us on Facebook, too: https://www.facebook.com/WarrandyteRiverRunners

Socks this week went to Jacinta.

Run 275

It was a lovely morning for a run, with no rain around and the temperature reasonably mild.

A couple of runners took off to run one distance but ended up running shorter distances for several reasons: Steph and Bec are preparing for a half marathon in 11 weeks time, and Caitlin was not feeling too good after 2 kms.

With the adjustments to times that this required, it meant that Steph and Bec managed to slide into first place, just overtaking Nada's time. Jacinta ran extremely well, but came in just under that magical 30 minute mark and so missed out on maximum points.

Monica was only ten seconds back from Nada and, along with Jozica and Dennis, made it in in under 31 minutes. Cam ran 3 km after having only walked this distance before, so his time was well under the 30 minute mark.

Steve and Tessa rounded out the remaining runners in the main field, while Caitlin and Paul ran the 2 km distance.

All up there were 5 PBs and 1 within 15 seconds so lots of people running well:

PBs went to:
Cam: by
Jacinta: by
Stephanie and Bec: by
and Paul: by

and Monica was within 15 seconds of her PB.

Remember that only the top 10 runs can count towards your consistency points for the season.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Next run will be on Saturday August 8 at 7:30am.

Socks this week go to Dennis.

Sunday, July 26, 2015

Run 274

Another close finish this week with Steve winning, and Nada coming back into her own to take out second place. Peter wasn't too far back from them, with Tessa, Alicia and Atsuko all in the mix.

Bec, Stephanie and Caitlin all ran the 3km course and after some adjustments for starting times were all within a second of each other.

Barbara continues to walk the 2km course with reasonably consistent times.

No one was able to beat their personal best time, but Alica and Tessa did manage to equal theirs, so they are within 15 seconds and get the extra points for that.

The Consistency Points Table is looking very close, with Atsuko and Peter within two points of each other and Jozica only 8 points back. All of these runners have already run at least ten runs this season, so their points will only count if they manage to beat one of their other runs for this season (remember only your best ten runs can count towards your season score).

Next week's run will be on SUNDAY 2 August due to the market on Saturday. We will be there for a start at 7:30am.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Each week when there are ten or more runners, a random number is drawn and whoever comes in that place on the run results wins themselves a pair of socks. This week the socks went to number 1 - Steve. Congratulations.

Run 272 and 273

Sorry for no post last week. I have been quite unwell and have not had the energy to keep the site updated.

So, for Run 272

It looks like it was an amazingly close finish with Tessa, Peter and Atsuko all finishing within 2 seconds! Must have been a great race to the end.

Kaje had his time adjusted to match his handicap and that brought him in under the magical 30 minute mark. Caitlin and Steve were also within 2 seconds of each other and Joz, Amanda and Nada weren't too far behind either.

All up there was only 1 PB and no-one else within 15 seconds of their PB:
Kaje beat his previous PB by 1 minute and 39 seconds - great running!

Socks for this week went to Tessa

Run 273

Finishers were a little more spread out this week, and there were still some notable runs. Peter ran the 4 km course for the first time in a while, and absolutely blitzed through. After adjusting his time to match his 4 km handicap he came in just under the 30 minute mark.

That left Atsuko to take out the honours for this week with a beautifully timed run, followed by Nada and Tessa and Alicia, with Caitlin not far behind them.

There was a bit of a break to the last few runners in Kaje, Joz and Jon.

With people starting to reach more than 10 runs for the season, we may see some movement at the top of the table as only your best 10 runs can count towards your consistency points in any one season.

There were 2 PBs this week and 2 people within 15 seconds of their PBs:
Peter beat his previous best at this distance by 2 minutes and 3 seconds - a great effort,
Atsuko beat her previous best by 4 seconds.

Tessa and Alicia were both within the 15 second range of their PBs.

Some great running from everyone.

No socks for this week as there were not 10 runners.

The next run is on Saturday 25 July at 7:30 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Sunday, July 5, 2015

Run 271

This morning we welcomed two new runners to the group. Kaje came along and ran the 5km course and Emma joined us in the 3km distance. We hope that we will see you back again soon.

A few people set off at different times to their handicaps and so there were quite a few adjustments this morning, but I think I have it all sorted now.

After adjusting, Niels has ended up in first place today, with a PB, so he gains the maximum points. Caitlin's time was also adjusted, bringing her in fourth place, so well done.

Thanks to Nada for running early today and doing the timekeeping for this week. As has become the norm for a Sunday run, several people then went on to have a morning coffee at Warrandyte Cafe.

Just the one PB this week:
Niels beat his previous Personal Best by 1 minute 58 seconds - well done!

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run is back to Saturday 11 July at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Socks this week go to Owen.

Run 270

The start of the school holidays saw several of the regular runners away, but Peter acted as the timekeeper for the 11 runners/walkers who came along.

Jon and Atsuko led the field this week coming in within seven seconds of each other. Monica tried out a new distance, running 4km for the first time, while Tessa stepped back down to 3km.

It was good to see Jacinta back after a few weeks away, and Steph and Bec continue to run well.

There was only 1 person within 15 seconds of their Personal Best this week - well done Atsuko.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 5 July at 7:30am due to the market on Saturday.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 269

It was a cold morning for running today, and several of the regulars were out of action due to not feeling too well. Nada ended up having to walk to the finish line, but managed to complete 3km. Hope that you all are feeling better soon!

The females were the first four across the line: Atsuko and Jozica were running very well despite the cold morning and both managed to finish with Personal Best times. Tessa and Alicia stepped up to the 4km distance, and that meant that their times had to be adjusted for new handicaps.

The guys followed afterwards, with myself, Owen and Olie crossing the line about a minute behind the others. Jon and Cam walked the 2km course.

PBs this week:
Jozica beat her previous best by 5 seconds, and
Atsuko beat hers by 10 seconds.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

The next run will be on Saturday 27 June at 7:30am.

Run 268

It was a very cold morning to be out running, but that didn't stop 13 runners and walkers from coming down to the river. The cold seems to have held people back in their times, but it didn't prevent Peter and Tessa from managing a personal best time this week. No one else was within 15 second of their PB.

We welcomed a new runner in Alicia this morning who ran with Tessa and they managed to be the first to cross the finish line. After adjusting the handicap for the new runner, she managed to come in just in front of me. Peter was finishing quickly in second place and three runners behind him were in a sprint finish to the line with Jozica managing to just hold out from Owen and Steve.

Atsuko (and her puppy Amy) ran a good time for the 4km distance and Stephanie and Bec continue to run well (even after already having run about 6km before our timed run this morning). Monica, as always was running very well and Caitlin and Barbara walked the 2km track.

Sorry Nada - I had originally left you off the lists for this week. All has been updated now.

PBs today:
Peter by 1 second (and that means he is moving up to the 4km distance next week), and
Tessa by 38 seconds

The run next week is on Saturday 20 June at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Cheers,

Run 267

It was a big field for the Sunday of a long weekend with 12 runners/walkers showing up. With Joz and Monica away the field was left open and Peter stepped up tp the plate, taking out the line honours for this week and his second win of the season.

I was not too far behind, but couldn't catch him once he overtook me in the final kilometre. Atsuko was also running well and came in just behind me. After an adjustment for sending Owen off on the wrong handicap, he took out fourth place.

Stewart again ran well, and seems to be figuring out how the system works, coming in ahead of Caitlin and Steve. Jon ran early today to do the timing for us - thanks for that.

In the two kilometre field, there were two new young runners in Caitlyn and Harrison who ran for the first time today and did very well.

There were no PBs today and Peter was the only one to come within within 15 seconds of his.

The run next week will be on Saturday 12 June at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Socks this week went to Chantelle.

Run 266

It was another great turnout this week, with 17 people showing up to run or walk along the river and Atsuko (and her new puppy Amy) came along to keep the times this week.

Monica took off like a rocket this morning, blitzing the course and breaking the 30 minute mark by more than a minute. Cam continued his walking of the 3km course and also managed to come in just under the 30 minute mark once his time had been adjusted.

That left Steve able to take out the win for this week with a very well timed run, but Tessa, Jozica and Nada were hot on his heels. Bec and Stephanie continue to improve on their times as well. There was another sprint finish to the end contested between Stewart and Caitlin, with Stewart just managing to make it home first.

It seemed like a great morning for a run, and there were 6 Personal Best times recorded:
Tessa beat her previous best by 11 seconds,
Bec and Stephanie beat theirs by 51 seconds,
Owen K returned for a 2km run and beat his previous best by 1 minute and 7 seconds,
Cam beat last week's walk by 1 minute and 10 seconds, and
Monica beat her previous best by an amazing 1 minute and 33 seconds.

Jozica was also within 15 seconds of her PB.

Next week is a market weekend so we will be running on Sunday 7 June at 7:30am. We realise it is also the long weekend so there may not be as many runners and walkers there and points may be easier to pick up.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage through the season.

Socks this week went to Caitlin.

Run 265

It was an enormous turnout for this week's run. We had a total of 18 runners and walkers, which is the most we have had in a single week for a long time. Monica did an amazing job of keeping people on track at the start line and taking their times at the end of the run.

With so many people running, it turned out to be quite a close finish. No-one could catch up to Trudy, who stormed home well before the 30 minute mark. It looks like she has been working out down near Port Fairy and is running very well. We hope she can find some time soon to come back and run again.

Pete tried valiantly to catch up to her, overtaking many runners after the final turn-around, but eventually managed to come in 2nd place behind Steve who had to run early and timed his run very well. Jozica, Paul and Tessa all managed to come in within about 15 seconds of each other.

There was one Personal Best:
Trudy beat her previous PB by an amazing 1 minute 40 seconds.

And 3 runners managed to get within 15 seconds of their PB:
Peter, Jozica and Tessa.

Well done to all runners this week. We hope to see you back again soon.

After the run, we presented the awards for Season 16. With a small field for the season, the places were all up for grabs. Monica had the best average for the season, scoring 13.2 points points per run. Caitlin picked up the kids award and took home the trophy for that section again.

In the adults section, it was a tough run to the finish line and Peter managed to come in second place for the season with a total of 93 points from his best ten runs. But the winner of the season was Jozica with a total of 123 points from her best ten runs, which included 4 wins. A fabulous effort and congratulations go to Joz.

Our next run will be on Saturday 30 May at 7:30 am and we look forward to seeing another big field of runners.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Cheers,

Paul

Run 264

It was a fabulous morning for a run and it was great to see another big turnout with 12 runners this morning.

We welcomed 3 newcomers this week: Bec and Stephanie who happened to be running past and saw us so decided to join in and run 3km with us, and Andrew who ran 2km. We hope to see you back again.

There was a little confusion over some starting times, so after adjustments have been made the stand out results are:

Atsuko came in under the magical 30 minute mark, beating her previous PB by 18 seconds,
Jozica continues to time her runs beautifully, coming in first and beating her previous PB by 24 seconds,
Tessa came in fourth beating her PB by 5 seconds.

It was a tight finish with lots of runners coming in, and we thank Monica for coming down and doing the timing.  For this season, we have decided to allocate 1 point to anyone who does the timing but is not running that week.

We look forward to seeing lots of runners and/or walkers again next week. The run is on Saturday 23 May at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Remember, if we have ten or more runners/walkers in a week we will do a random draw for a pair of socks. This week the socks go to Nada. Congratulations.

Run 263

Hi again,

another great turnout this week - we had 13 people running!

Another new runner started this week - welcome Stuart! A great introduction to River Runners with a very good 4km time.

Monica continues to blitz the times, with a break this week, leaving first position to Jozica, closely followed by Steve, Peter and Atsuko with Nada not far behind.

It was great to see Tessa back again running the 3km course and also good to have Olie and his boys back as well.

There were two PBs this week:
Jozica by 7 seconds and
Monica by a huge 1 minute 27 seconds!

Great effort guys.

Paul

Socks this week went to Steve.

Run 262

It was a great start to a new season this morning with 11 people arriving at the starting line by 7:30. We welcomed three new runners: Cam, Jacinta and Tessa, and hope to see them become regulars in our weekly runs. We also announced the fact that Jozica has taken out season 16 with a win in the last run. Full details will be announced when we have our presentation in a few weeks time.

Monica was the person to beat today as she blitzed the course, coming in just one second over that magical 30 minute mark. Atsuko and Peter were very close behind. The new runners ran consistently, but Cam forgot where the 2 km turnaround was and kept running - I have adjusted his time to indicate roughly where he was at the 5 km mark (I hope).

Barbara and Caitlin showed up as we were crossing the finish line, unfortunately they hadn't seen the change of times for this season. Please remember that ALL winter runs will be at 7:30am on both Saturdays and Sundays.

There was one PB this week:
Monica beat her previous best by 25 seconds - well done!

And there was one person within 15 seconds of there PB:
Atsuko - running well.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 9 May at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

With 11 competitors this morning we had a draw for the socks - the winner was Paul.

Run 261

Wow. Another season has finished for the Warrandyte River Runners. We finished off with a mass start, which does make it harder to judge exactly how well you are running in comparison to everyone else, but it certainly was a fast start with everyone racing to get to the first turnaround point.

Jozica managed to run a PB again, which is fantastic, and Pete was also very quick around the course.

I don't want to say too much and give away the final results of the season, which will be announced at a run soon.

Thanks very much to Monica who came down and did the timing for us on the weekend.

This weekend is a market weekend so we will be running the first week of the winter season on Sunday 3 May. We are moving Saturday mornings to the "winter" time of 7:30am, but we are leaving the Sunday time. That means all runs through winter will be at 7:30am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Hi all,

It was another very exciting finish this week with Joz and Monica sprinting to the finish line but unable to catch up with Peter. The first three over the line were all within 8 seconds of each other. A great effort.

Jozica came in within 15 seconds of her PB, continuing a great season for her.
Monica had another PB time this week beating her previous PB by 13 seconds and she, too, is doing very well this season.

Next week is the final run for the season, so it will be a mass start on Sunday 26 April (not ANZAC day) at 7:30am. Make sure you are there by the start time so we can all go off together!

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 259

Hi everyone,

I was away last week so didn't see the actual run, but based on the results it looks like it was a close finish, with three runners coming in within 10 seconds of each other. Well done Jozica, Monica and Atsuko.

Jozica and Monica were within 15 seconds of their PB and Monica managed to run her personal best.

The next run is 18 April at 7:00am, and new runners or walkers are always welcome at any stage during the season.

PB:
Monica by 16 seconds

within 15 seconds:
Jozica
Atsuko

Run 257

It was a dark and drizzly morning, but that didn't stop an intrepid group of 6 runners showing up to run along the river again.

With only four runners around at 7:00 we considered a mass start, but decided to stick to our handicaps in case a few more showed up which turned out to be a good idea.

The pace was on, as Jon was determined to get a new PB and he dragged a few others along with him. The finish was very exciting as there were four runners coming down the home straight, led by Jon. He broke the 30 minute mark, and dragged Jozica over the line to break as well. This left Peter to take out the line honours as the first person over the line after the magical 30 minute mark, with Monica hot on his heels.

It was a very fast pace today with 4 PBs recorded this week:
Monica by 47 seconds
Jon by 40 seconds
Jessica by 40 seconds
Paul by 20 seconds

Well done, everyone!

After some discussion it was decided that we will not run next weekend due to Easter, so the next run is on Saturday 11 April at 7:00 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 256

Running on Thursday night to accommodate the Warrandyte Festival over the weekend meant that only 4 runners participated.

The evening run seems to have been beneficial for Steve, who managed to time his run perfectly arriving at exactly the 30 minute mark. Peter was not far behind him and Jozica is still on fire out on her runs.

Two people came within 15 seconds of their personal bests: Steve and Jozica - well done to both of you.

Our next run will be on Saturday 28 March at 7:00 am.

Runners are starting to hit the 10 runs for the season which means that points will be harder for them to come by as only your 10 best runs each season can count towards your points.

New walkers and runners are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 255

Another smaller field of runners today, and without Jozica and Peter there was a chance to move up the consistency table.

Monica was back for her second week and managed to better her first time and take out the win, giving her maximum points this week.

Nada took out second place, moving her closer to the top of the table, and Jon and Steve rounded out the field of 5km runners, while Caitlin and I ran and walked 2km for this week with me "rocking" the new no-hair hairstyle and no beard!

Only the one PB this week and no-one within 15 seconds.

PB: Monica by 16 seconds.

Next week due to the Warrandyte Festival being on all weekend, it was decided that we will run on THURSDAY NIGHT at 7:00pm for anyone who can make it. NO RUN ON THE WEEKEND.

New runners and walkers are always welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 254

We take great pleasure in welcoming two new runners to the field: Monica and Elke.

When the clock was started this morning there was just me representing the guys with 5 women ready to run. As I am still in recovery mode, I left at scratch to walk the 2km course, while Monica started on her 5km run. Peter arrived soon after which improved the male-to-female ratio a little.

Many thanks to Atsuko for helping out with the timing again while she is recovering.

Jozica continues to fly through the 5km course, coming very close to her PB this week, but she was pipped at the post by Elke who had a very good 3km run. Monica managed to break this week, and hopefully we will have her handicap sorted for her run next week.

Peter and Nada both ran consistently, with everyone being home well before the 32 minute mark.

No PBs this week.
Within 15 seconds - Jozica.

Congratulations to Peter on reaching his 150th run today - a phenomenal effort.

Several of us ended the morning with coffee at the nearby Warrandyte Cafe, and have decided to make this a regular event after our Sunday morning runs (and we will see how Saturdays go when the winter times kick in).

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Our next run will be on Saturday 14 March at 7:00am.

Run 253

It was a very good field for the run on Saturday, especially considering many people were backing up for Run Warrandyte on Sunday morning.

Nada didn't run, but came down to keep times for this week.

Jozica was definitely on fire once again, running 3km in her preparation for the big run on Sunday, she flew through the course beating her previous PB over this distance by nearly 2 minutes! This meant that she came in well before the 30 minute mark.

Jon managed to take out the win this week, but unfortunately didn't manage to get within 15 seconds of his PB.

Dennis must have gone out hard because he ended up having to walk home with a hamstring problem. Hopefully he can rest up and be back again soon.

Only 1 PB and no-one else within 15 seconds:

Jozica PB for the 3km run: 1 minute 58 seconds

We hope to see lots of runners and walkers out for the event next weekend. Don't forget it is on Sunday 8 March at 7:30am because the market will be on Saturday.

New runners or walkers are always welcome at any stage during the season.

No socks again this week (hopefully we will get 10 runners one week soon).

Run 252

Hi everyone,

It was a lot less wet this week, but when the clock started at 7:00 am there were only two runners present. Fortunately, other runners and walkers showed up over the next few minutes in time to start their distances (or almost). The last to turn up was a return of Dennis to the run, but he had arrived at the winter time of 7:30 instead, and set off for a 3 km run.

Peter was the first across the line of the main running group - not too bad after just arriving back on a plane from Perth that morning! But after the times had been adjusted, he had been pipped at the post by Dennis - by only 3 seconds. Nada wasn't too far behind them, either.

No PBs and no-one within 15 seconds this week (Jozica wasn't there this week).

Hopefull Atsuko will be back from her skiing knee injury soon and I will be able to get back into the running, too. We may even see a field of ten runners soon and be able to allocate someone a new pair of socks.

We hope to see lots of runners down for a 7:00 am start next week on Saturday 28 February.

New runners or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Cheers

Run 251

Well, there was really only one word for today's run - WET!

It was a very wet morning down by the river and only five brave (or should that say stupid) people showed up to complete the course this morning. We certainly had squelchy shoes by the end of the run.

The field was led once again by Jozica who sped away to her third win of the season with another PB. Beating her previous best (of last week) by another 3 seconds. Well done on bringing your PB down by almost a minute during this season!

Pete also ran well to come in second, with the rest of the field more than a minute behind him - I blame the wet track for my slowness. ;P

Next week's run is again on Saturday, 21 Feb, beginning at 7:00 am, we will possibly have to run through the setting up of the Pottery market.

New runners or walkers are welcome to start at any time during the season.

Run 250

Another reasonably quiet week at the river with only 5 runners competing. Atsuko came down to help out by doing the timing this week on her return from Japan. Unfortunately she injured her knee skiing over in Japan and was not up to running this weekend - hopefully she will be back in the swing soon.

Jozica kept up her amazing recent record, taking out the win this week and doing it with a PB. Well done.

The next three runners were all very close together, but Pete managed to hold on for second place.

Next week we will be running on Saturday again, 14 February at 7:00am. I am sure we will all be heading home to a lovely Valentine's Day breakfast!

New runners or walkers welcome at any stage in the season.

Run 249

Another quiet morning with only 5 runners competing in the "main" event and two walking the 2km track. After adjustments were made for handicaps it was Steve out for a win with Jozica in a reasonably close second place.

No PBs and no-one within 15 seconds this week.

We also presented the "R & J Clark" trophy for last season - the winner was, as expected, Jon with a total of 96 points including 4 wins for the season. In second place was Nada on 77 points including 2 wins. Our junior winner was the ever-consistent Caitlin with 45 points which included one win.

Our next run is on SUNDAY 8 February at 7:30 am as there is a market on Saturday. We always look forward to seeing new people down at the start/finish line and new runners and walkers are always welcome at any time during the season.

Run 248

It was the last weekend of the school holidays and several people were off enjoying themselves in Australia and overseas. Hope to see you back at the run on your return.

A big welcome this morning to Jeff who came along for his first run with the River Runners and who blitzed the course - an excellent effort and we hope to see you down by the river again in the future.

The times for everyone else seemed to be a little on the slow side. Perhaps we are all just getting ourselves ready for the return to school or coming to the end of the holidays.

No PBs and no-one within 15 seconds this week.

Our next run is on Saturday 31 January at 7:00 am. New runners and walkers welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 246 and 247

Run 246

Five runners/walkers braved the rain, but for the dedicated the rain stopped for the run.

No personal best times and no-one within 15 seconds for this run.

Run 247

A few more runners and walkers braved the early start this morning, with Nada running early so she could do the timing for us - thanks very much for that! As I hadn't updated the handicaps from last week's run and had made a couple of errors in the calculations (still getting used to how this all works!) there were a few adjustments to be made at the end of the run.

The main adjustment moved my time from first to 5th! This meant that Atsuko managed a win today, with Steve a close second. Pete didn't end up breaking but came in third. Sorry Jozica, but you still broke today - you are just running too quickly at the moment.

One personal best time this week to Jozica - 41 seconds off!

Next run is on Saturday 24 January at 7:00 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Cheers,

Run 245

It was certainly a hot morning today which may account for the lack of numbers this morning. With only four runners there were some easy points up for grabs.

With the hot weather and winds predicted for today, please stay safe in and around Warrandyte - it may be a good day to enact your bushfire plan!

It was good to see Pete back this morning running 3km after riding down to join us.

I think everyone found it pretty hard going today, with no-one getting within 15 seconds of their PB.

I am away next week, but Jozica is going to take the times for the morning and I will not be updating the blogsite until after the following run.

Next run is on Saturday 10 January at 7:00am, and the one after that will be on Saturday 17 January at 7:00 am.

New walkers or runners are always welcome at any stage during the season.

Cheers,

Paul
