Run 521

There were four starters in the run this week. Thanks to Monica for coming along to do the time keeping duties.

Jacinta was the only person to be completing the 2 km distance. In the longer distances, once the handicaps had been accounted for, Paul was the first person over the line this week. Nada managed second place and Jon was in third place.

No-one ran a personal best time or was within 15 seconds of their PB this week.

This was the last week of the current season (and the last run of the year). Our next scheduled run will be on Saturday January 2 at 7:30 am for anyone who can make it. This will start the new season in a new year which will hopefully see us continue running each week.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our runners, past and present, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have a wonderful festive season and enjoy time with your families.

The scores for the last two seasons will be added together (a total of only 9 runs over the two seasons) to find the winner of season 32/33.

Run 520

There were six starters in the run along the banks of the Yarra this week.

Jacinta was the only person to complete the 2 km distance. In the longer distances, everyone ran 5 km this week and Monica was again the first person over the line once the handicaps were taken into consideration. Alicia came in second, only 5 seconds behind her, and Jon and Nada were only separated by one second for third and fourth place. Atsuko was the final person over the line this week.

One person managed to run within 15 seconds of their PB: well run again Monica.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 20 December at 7:30am as there is a Christmas Market occurring on Saturday.

This will be the last run of the year and of this combined season. Our next scheduled run after this will be on Saturday 2 January for anyone who is available.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 519

 Hi all,

We officially started back last week and will continue to run for the next few weeks until the end of this season. I will manually ad this season's results onto the runs that began at the start of the year to create a 2020 mega-season so don't have the official ladder ready to go yet (but can say that Monica is doing very well).

This week there were five runners who started out for either 3 km or 5 km. We all started together to spread out over the run and not have too many people gathered at the start/finish line. Thanks to Dennis for doing the timekeeping duties.

Once the handicaps had been added onto the run times, it was Monica who came out with a win this week. Atsuko managed to beat out Paul by two seconds for second place. Jozica was not too far behind in fourth with Nada at the rear of the field this week.

There was one runner within 15 seconds of their PB - well run Monica.

Next week the run will be on Saturday morning at 7:30 am. The following week will be a SUNDAY run and that will be the last run for the year (we don't usually run between Christmas and New Year).

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any time.

We're BACK!!

 Hi all,

We plan to restart the runs again and there will be a run this weekend at 7:30am on SUNDAY - Warrandyte Market is on again on Saturday.

If you want to get back in to running, we will try to remain socially distanced at the start/finish and follow the government's COVID guidelines.

Runs 514 and 515

We have begun running each week again (with fairly small numbers at the moment).

Last week there were 9 competitors. Thanks to Jacinta for doing the timing before completing your walk.

After handicaps were adjusted the results were as follows. Jacinta was first over the line in the 2 km distance, with Paul and Margaret walking the 2 km as well. Nada came in first place just ahead of Monic with Jon only 1 second behind he. Jozica managed fourth place ahead of Adrienne and Alicia was last over the line.

In the latest run this morning there were five starters. It was wet underfoot but the rain held off while we ran. Thanks to Doug for coming down to do the time-keeping duties today.

Paul was the only person to complete the 2 km distance. In the longer distances, Monica came in first place once the handicaps were adjusted. Nada managed second place ahead of Alicia and Jacinta was last over the line.

No-one managed a personal best time in either week, and only one person managed to come within 15 seconds of their PB in both weeks:
Well run Monica.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 11 July at 7:30 am.

We will continue to maintain social distancing at the start/finish line and would suggest that runners start soon after arriving and I will add in handicaps in as required. Also we will try to not have runners remain around at the end of the run (or continue to keep at least 1.5 metres apart).

Run 513

We started back with 8 people running along the banks of the Yarra this week. Thanks to Nada for running early and doing the timing this week.

Margaret and Paul walked the 2 km distance with their dogs this week. In the longer, handicapped distances, Monica was first over the line this week with Atsuko in second place. Nada managed third place this week and Adrienne managed fourth place. Alicia and Jacinta were the last two over the line this morning.

There was only one person within 15 seconds of their personal best time and no-one else achieved a PB this week. Well run to Monica.

Since we managed to run 12 runs in last season, we will declare the winner of that season shortly. We now begin Season 32 which will have 11 runs.

We will continue to time runs over the coming week, but are hoping that we can remain below the 10 people limit for COVID reasons. We also ask anyone coming along to stick to the current social distancing rules that are in effect in Victoria.

Next week the run will be on 27 June at 7:30 am.

Run 512 (Peter Cross Tribute Run) and Suspension of runs due to COVID-19

There were 14 people who came along on Saturday morning and ran together or walked together in groups in memory of Peter Cross. It was, again, great to share stories together and memories of Pete over the last ten years of running with us.

There was only one winner today, Pete, and we therefore clocked his 299th run.

His family will come along one Saturday to mark his 300th run and we all look forward to that.

COVID-19 update

Due to the health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing measures we have decided to suspend all runs until further notice.

Run 511 and Vale Peter

There were 8 starters for the run/walk along the bans of the Yarra River this morning. Thanks to Jacinta for doing the timekeeping duties again this morning.

Walking the 2 and 3 km distances today were Jacinta and Adrienne. In the longer, handicapped distances Jon was first over the line, but came in before the 30 minute mark and was classed as breaking today. That left the win open for Jozica who was just ahead of Hayden and Atsuko. In fourth place was Nada and Tessa was last over the line today.

There was only one person who managed a personal best time today:
Well run Jon who took 48 seconds off his previous best time for the 6 km distance.

No one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 21 March at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

We are deeply saddened and devastated to learn of the passing of our dear friend and fellow runner, Peter.

We will all miss him and think of him at every run and every event. He was part of Warrandyte River Runners from the very beginning. He brought to the group incredible positivity, support and inspiration. He motivated us to achieve goals we thought we couldn’t. Our sincerest condolences to Deirdre and family.

Peter ran his first run with us on 5 April 2010, and clocked up 298 runs with the group as one of our most consistent runners over the past 10 years.

Rest In Peace Peter.

Please be aware of public health issues and COVID-19 when deciding to come along to the run. The Warrandyte Festival has been cancelled next week so we plan to be running on SATURDAY 21 March in the morning rather than our usual Thursday evening run for the Festival weekend.

Run 506

It was an eerie feel along the banks of the Yarra this morning. There was fog/smoke/mist/haze reducing visibility and thousands of termites flying through the haze. That didn't stop 11 people coming down to run or walk, though.

In the 2 km distance, we had four people: Tessa was first back, followed by Jozica and then Rachel and Mark walking together. In the longer distances, first place went to Jon (and Cinnamon) in a beautifully timed run. Monica ran well into second place with Hayden not far behind and Nada in fourth. Paul managed fifth and Matthew and Adrienne were the last runners over the line.

There were no personal best times recorded today, but one person ran within 15 seconds of their PB:
Well done Monica.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 15 February at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any time during the season.

Run 505

After a week of very hot weather it was great to have a cooler morning for a run along the banks of the Yarra in Warrandyte today. Thanks again to Jacinta for coming down to do the timing for us and thanks to Quinton's SUPA IGA for providing the fruit as always.

Sandi was first over the line again today, but continues to improve her times and was again just before the 30 minute mark. That left another win open for Monica, her third of the season so far! Hayden ran well into second place and James was only seconds behind him. Nada was in fourth spot and Paul and Atsuko fought it out for fifth and sixth respectively. Alicia, Jon and Amelia were the last runners to come in today.

There were two personal best times recorded today:
Sandi continues to improve and took another 40 seconds off her PB, and
Monica took 21 seconds off her previous best time.

One other person was within 15 seconds of their PB:
well run James.

Congratulations to James for his 50th run with the group. We also presented the awards for last season. In the Kids' section first place was taken out by Matthew with 89 points from 7 runs, and second place went to Alicia with 55 points from 6 runs. In the senior division first place was Monica with 106 points from 11 runs and second place went Nada with 73 points from 13 runs.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 8 February at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 504

It was great to have 10 people down for the run along the banks of the Yarra last week. The weather was good for us and there were some good times for today's run.

There was only one person running the 2 km distance: well done Amelia. In the longer, handicapped, distances, first over the line was Adrienne, but she came in well before the 30 minute mark and recorded a break this week. That left the win open for Monica, who was only seconds ahead of James in second place, with Hayden third. Nada managed fourth place ahead of Atsuko. Paul came in sixth ahead of Jon and Tessa was last over the line.

There were two personal best times recorded this week:
James took 24 seconds off his PB for the 6 km distance, and
Adrienne took 45 seconds off her previous best time for the 5 km distance.

One other person was within 15 seconds of their PB:
Well run Monica.

The random number for the sock draw this week was 9, meaning Tessa wins the socks.

The next run will be on Sunday 2 February at 7:30 am, and we will be presenting the trophies for last season at the end of the run.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during he season.

Run 503

Today was our "Relief Run" to raise funds for the Red Cross for Bushfire Relief. It was great to see seven of our regular runners come along for this event and another seven people come to help us raise some money for the relief fund. Thanks very much to Diana, Robin, Olga, Karina, Sophie and Steve K, and a big welcome to Yunal who ran his first run with the group today and we hope to see him back running again in the future.

A big thank-you to Quinton's SUPA IGA for providing a large fruit basket for the runners to enjoy at the end of the run (as they do every week).

For the people who came along just for the Relief Run, Karina was the first over the line. Olga came in second just ahead of Robin and Diana. Sophie and Steve walked the 3 km distance today. For the regular runners in the group, Amelia was the only person to take on the 2 km distance. Monica was the first over the line after the 30 minute mark today with a PB time earning her the maximum points this week. Nada was in second place just ahead of Jozica and Yunal (who shared a finishing time) with Hayden in fifth place. James and Paul also shared the final finishing time.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 25 January at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any time during the season.
