Run 398

Well the season has now been run and won. In the tradition of River Runners, we had a mass start as the last run of the season to keep the final winner a secret. If you have been watching the consistency table, though, I don't think there will be any surprises! Thanks to Atsuko for doing the timing for this run.

I will post the results of this run after the winners are announced early next year.

This week there is no official run for the Warrandyte River Runners, but several people were talking about meeting on Saturday 30 December at 7:30am (slightly later than usual) for a casual, untimed run.

We hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas and look forward to seeing you down by the river in 2018. The new season officially starts on Saturday 6 January at 7:00am.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Run 397

There were 12 starters for the run on the weekend, and thanks to Nada for running early and keeping the times for us this week.

No-one took on the 2 km course this week, so everyone was in with a chance for the major points. The first over the line in a well-timed run this week was Alicia who came in just 10 seconds ahead of Monica, who in turn was just ahead of Louanna. Well run ladies!

In fourth place was Jon, with Tessa and Jozica nipping at his heels. They were just ahead of Atsuko who continues to run well this season. Peter and Nada were only seconds apart in eighth and ninth places. Paul, Jacinta and Harrison rounded out the field.

No-one managed a personal best time this week, but Jon was within 15 seconds of his PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 23 December at 7:00 am.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WILL BE A MASS START AS IT IS THE LAST RUN OF THIS SEASON so everyone will start at 7:00.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 396

There were ten starters for the run this week, and we thank Doug for doing the timing for us this week.

Jacinta was the only runner to take on the 2km course this week and Jozica walked the 3km course. For those who took on running the longer distances, this week saw Paul take out the first place ahead of Louanna and Steve. Adrienne was in fourth place ahead of Steve and Amelia (who were only separated by one second), with Monica and Tessa finishing off the runners.

No-one managed a Personal Best time over their chosen distance this week and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 17 December at 7:30 am due to the Christmas Market being held on Saturday this week.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 394

It was a humid morning after the rain and thunder from last night, but that didn't stop 14 people coming down to run along the banks of the Yarra in beautiful Warrandyte this morning. We welcome Georgia to the group this morning for her first run with us and hope to see her again. Thanks to Steve for doing the timekeeping duties this morning.

First over the line today was Louanna, but unfortunately she ran too quickly and beat the 30 minute mark by 1 second. That means she was a breaker this morning which left the win for today to Renee with her second win for the season. Georgia managed to come in second place ahead of Paul who nudged out Atsuko by three seconds. Tessa was in fifth position today in a sprint finish with Adrienne. Peter was next ahead of Nada and Jozica. Caitlyn and Harrison walked quite a bit of the 3 km distance today and were the last two home in the longer distances. Over the 2 km distance, Jon had arrived late and so only ran the shorter distance and Jacinta ran/walked 2 km this morning.

There were 2 people who managed a personal best time today over their chosen distance. Congratulations to:
Louanna, who beat her previous PB by 10 seconds and,
Renee, who managed to take 1 minute and 31 seconds off her previous 5 km best time.

Nobody else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 3 December at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 393

It was a beautiful morning for a run along the banks of the Yarra this morning, with 11 starters for this morning's run. Thanks to Steve for keeping the times this week.

There were three runners who took on the 2 km distance this morning, with Caitlyn and Harrison being the first back over the line followed by Margaret. In the longer distances, Nada was first in today with a nicely timed run, followed by Atsuko and Renee in her first 5 km run. Paul managed fourth place ahead of Jacinta and Adrienne, Jozica and Tessa rounded out the field.

No-one managed a Personal Best time for their chosen distance this morning and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 25 November at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 392

It was great to see 20 starters down early for the run this morning, including newcomer, Robert, who was welcomed today. It was a warm morning and great conditions for the new time of 7:00 am. Thanks also to James for doing the time-keeping duties today, and good luck with the Marysville marathon tomorrow.

In the non-handicapped 2 km distance this morning there were six runners: Catherine, Elizabeth, Robert, Caitlyn, Harrison and Margaret. Well run to everyone. In the longer, handicapped, sections it was a very tight finish with the first 6 people over the line within a 40 second period. The race was taken out today by Atsuko who continues to run well this season. She just pipped Nada in the home straight, who was followed closely by Tessa and Adrienne. Louanna was only seconds behind and just ahead of Jacinta. Michael and Sophia ran the 3 km course for the first time and therefore had their handicaps adjusted accordingly and managed to come in seventh place. Jozica and Monica were next and again within 3 seconds of each other. Paul, Steve, Amelia and Peter rounded out the field for today.

Atsuko has managed 4 wins this season and is sitting well clear on the leaderboard at the moment, but with only our top ten runs for a season being counted towards your consistency total, it is still possible for others to come through and challenge her for the top spot.

There were 3 Personal best times run today:
Atstuko managed to beat her previous 5 km PB by  seconds,
Elizabeth took another  seconds off her 2 km PB, and
Catherine beat her previous 2 km best by  seconds

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 18 November at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Monica has offered to organise an end-of-year celebration, and has suggested we get together at "The Night Owl" (wine, tapas & live music acts) at Goldfields Plaza Shopping Centre on Friday 1 December from 7:00 pm. If you can join us for a meal or just for a drink, please RSVP to Monica on 0408 520 303.

Run 391

There were 8 starters for the run on Sunday this week with several people away for the "long" weekend. Atsuko had planned to run 3 km with Harrison, but when she noticed James was there, decided that she needed to run a 5 km to stay in touch with top position on the table.

Margaret ran 2 km this week and was the only person running the shorter distance. In the longer distances, Jon ran the 3 km course and managed to come in before the 30 minute mark, which left the win open. Atsuko timed the run beautifully coming in at just after the 30 minute mark for another win for this season. Nada was in second place, only 10 seconds behind, with Renee and James taking out third and fourth position. Jacinta and Harrison were the final runners over the line this morning.

There were two personal best times this week:
Well run Jon, who took 49 seconds off his PB and
Atsuko took 5 seconds off her PB.

No one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on SATURDAY 11 November at 7:00 am - please note the change in time for Summer.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 390

There were 14 starters in today's run along the banks of the Yarra, and we warmly welcome Michael and Sophia to the group this week.

There was a group of 4 runners who chose to run the 2 km distance, and Elizabeth was the first of these back over the line, followed by Jacinta and new runners, Michael and Sophia. In the longer, handicapped distances, the first back after the 30 minute mark today was Steve. Congratulations on taking out the points in today's run 10 seconds ahead of James. Monica and Catherine came in equal third (once handicaps had been applied) ahead of Renee, with Louanna and Nada only being separated by one second. Adrienne managed to hold off Paul for eighth place and Jozica was the last runner home today.

No-one managed a personal best time today, but one runner came in within 15 seconds of their PB for their chosen distance:
well run James.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 5 November at 7:30 am, and the time will then revert on Saturdays to 7:00 am for the remainder of the Summer season.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 389

It was amazing to see 16 starters at the gazebo for the run today. There were definitely runners covering each of the distances: 2, 3, 4 and 5 km. We welcomed Catherine and Alice to the group this week, both running the 2 km distance today.

In the 2 km distance, first over the line was Elizabeth, followed by Catherine and Alice. In the longer, handicapped distances it was James who was first over the line after the 30 minute mark this week, with Jozica, Nada, Steve and Monica all nipping at his heels. The first five people all came in within about 20 seconds of each other. Dennis, Louanna and Atsuko were in the next group of runners, all within a three second time frame.Jon, Adrienne, Jacinta, Paul and Tessa were much more spread out at the end of the field. Nada was certainly kept on her toes keeping the times today.

No-one ran a Personal Best time over their chosen distance today, but two people were within 15 seconds of their PB:
well run James and Monica.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 28 October at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 388

There was a 'crispness' to the air this morning as we began the run, but we certainly warmed up quickly once we started. Thanks to Jozica and Peter for helping with the timing this morning and good luck to everyone running the marathon/half marathon tomorrow.

Atsuko was off like a rocket again, and had a perfectly timed run, coming in just ofter the 30 minute mark this morning and taking out her second win for the season. Nada and Steve were not too far behind her managing second and third places today. Renee ran very well not fourth position and Emma was back and managed fifth position today. Paul rounded out the field for the runners in the longer distances. Amelia and Jacinta took on the 2 km course today and both ran very well.

There was only one person who managed to get within 15 seconds of their PB this week and no-one managed to beat their personal best time over their chosen distance:
Well run to Atsuko.

As now sits 20 points clear on the Consistency Table for this season, with James, Will and Angela fighting it out for second place.

Next week the run will be on Saturday October 21 at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 387

It was a lovely morning to run along the banks of the Yarra and this morning James started us off and kept the times for us - thanks very much, James! There were people running all of the distances: 2, 3, 4 and 5 km today.

First over the line after the 30 minute mark today was Sandi in a very nicely timed run, but she did have to put on a spurt of speed at the end to stave off a quick finish from Atsuko, with Angela only seconds back. Will managed to run into fourth place today and James' time put him into fifth place. Elizabeth managed a very good time in her first 3 km distance and ended up ahead of her brother, Henry. Louanna, Renee and Jacinta rounded out the longer distances. Over two kilometres, we had two runners today and Paul managed to come in first ahead of Harrison.

Atsuko has moved to the top of the consistency table, moving just ahead of James and Will. It looks like it will be an interesting season. Remember that only your best ten runs from the season can count towards your consistency points.

There was one personal best time recorded today:
Well done to Sandi, who beat her previous best 3 km time by 38 seconds.

Three people were within 15 seconds of their PB for their chosen distance today:
Congratulations to Angela, Will and Paul.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 14 October remaining at 7:30 am for the moment until all responses have been collated from our survey.

If you have not yet responded, please send an email to Paul at wrrunners@gmail.com to let him know if you would like to move the start time for Saturday runs back to 7:00 am (as has been the tradition) or to leave it at 7:30 am or if you don't mind either way.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any time during the season.

Run 386 and a question about Summer starting times

It was a lovely morning for a run along the banks of the Yarra today. There were 11 starters over all of the distances (2, 3, 4 and 5 km) this morning, and we thank Nada fro running early and then being our timekeeper today.

Monica took off like a rocket today and managed to be the first person back over the line, but unfortunately she was under the 30 minute mark and so was considered to break today. That left the win open for Angela who came in just after the 30 minute mark, just 4 seconds ahead of Nada's time. James was in third place, again only seconds ahead of Will. Henry managed to come in fifth, with Adrienne in sixth place. Steve, Paul and Jacinta rounded out the field for the longer distances. Elizabeth was the only runner on the 2 km course and she continues to run well over this distance.

After five runs, James is sitting on top of the consistency leaderboard just one point ahead of Atsuko with Will in third place. Looks like being a close season.

There were three runners who ran personal best times over their chosen distance today:
Will beat his previous 3 km PB by 15 seconds,
Angela beat her PB by 10 seconds, and
Monica took 10 seconds off her previous PB.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 8 October at 7:30 am.

In previous years, as we change to daylight savings time, we usually begin our Saturday runs at 7:00 am instead of 7:30 (the Sunday time remains at 7:30 all year round). I have been asked if people would like to leave the Saturday time at 7:30 as well. Could you please respond by emailing me (or responding to the email sent out) with a preference for Saturday times: START AT 7:00; START AT 7:30; or DON'T MIND EITHER WAY. I will collate the responses and let you know the decision. Thanks

Run 385

It was a beautiful morning for a run or walk along the banks of the river in Warrandyte. It was great to see 13 starters this morning and thanks to Nada for running early and then doing the timekeeping today.

Renee was off like a flash today and ran the 3km course, coming in before the 30 minute mark and breaking today. This left the win open to the kids with Will coming in first, closely followed by Caitlyn. Coming in close on their heels were Paul in third place, just managing to hold off James, who was coming home strongly, by one second, and just ahead of Angela. We really kept the timekeeper on her toes today!

Atsuko was not too far back in sixth position and just ahead of Nada. Adrienne, Jozica, Peter and Tessa rounded out the field in the longer distances. Jacinta walked the 2 km course in good time.

There were two runners who ran a personal best time for their chosen distances this morning:
Will beat his previous PB by 27 seconds, and
Renee beat her previous Pb by a whopping 3 minutes 35 seconds - amazing running!

Three others were within 15 seconds of their personal best times:
Well run to James, Angela and Caitlyn.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 30 September at 7:30am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 384

It was very wet underfoot this morning (and even hailed on Nada when she ran early so she could do the timing this week - thanks!!) but that didn't stop 11 people coming down for the weekly run along the Yarra River.

Amelia ran 2 km again this week while Jacinta walked the same distance. In the longer distances, James was first over the line after the 30 minute mark, earning himself some good points. Atsuko came in second place, not too far behind him. The next four runners were all within 14 seconds of each other. Monica managed third place just ahead of Nada, and Adrienne managed to beat Paul by just one second. Jozica came in seventh place today. Steve and Peter rounded out the field this morning.

No-one managed a personal best time this morning, but one person was within 15 seconds of their personal best:
Well done Amelia for the second week in a row.

Atsuko is sitting on top of the consistency ladder early in this season, just ahead of James.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 23 September at 7:30am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 383

It was great to see 14 starters in the run last weekend. It was a very special presentation after the run as we congratulated Tessa on reaching her 100th run and Nad joined only two other people to have managed to reach 200 runs. Congratulations to both runners on a fabulous effort over the last years to get to this stage.

In the run itself, three people took off on the 2 km course and Amelia was first back over the line, followed by Louanna and Jacinta who was walking this week.

For the longer distances, Renee ran her first 3 km event and managed to be the first over the line after the 30 minute mark, only seconds ahead of Atsuko. James came in third this week in a good run ahead of Jozica. Paul was back to running the longer distances and managed a 5th position over 3 km. Nada was next only 2 seconds ahead of Monica. Peter managed to beat home Adrienne, Harrison and Tessa.

There was nobody who managed a personal best time over their chosen distance this week, and one person was within 15 seconds of their PB:
Well run, Amelia.

We presented the "Rob and Jodi Clark" trophy for the winner of last season - well done (again) Nada, and the runner up last season was Atsuko. Great running from both ladies during the Winter season.

In the under 18 section, the winner of last season was Tessa with the runner up being Alicia.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 16 September at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 382

It was quite a warm morning this morning for a run before going home and making or having breakfast with the family for Fathers' Day. There were 12 starters in the run this morning with runners in each of the distances on offer (2, 3, 4 or 5km) and we welcomed a new runner to the group in Sara. It was great to see her there and we will hopefully see her again. Thanks to Nada who ran early and then acted as the time-keeper for us this week.

Atsuko took off like a rocket this morning and was the first runner back over the finish line after the 30 minute mark once handicaps had been adjusted for. She managed to come in just ahead of Sara and Nada. Renee continues to run well and managed to come in fourth place today, just two seconds ahead of Dennis. Monica and Jacinta were next over the line, with Peter and Tessa rounding out the longer distances. Over the 2km course, Amelia came home first, followed by Paul and Louanna.

There was no-one who ran their personal best time over their selected distance this week, and only one runner was within 15 seconds of their PB:
Well run Amelia.

Nest week the run will be on Saturday 9 September at 7:30am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 381

It was certainly an exciting end to the season for the Warrandyte River Runners this morning. We had 16 starters for the run today, including Rob and Jodi, the original founders of this group. It was great to see them back down in Victoria and they were warmly welcomed on the run today.

New to the group this morning also were brother and sister team of Henry and Elizabeth who ran the 3 km and 2 km courses respectively. It was great to see you there today and hopefully we will continue to see you running with us.

Thanks this morning to Monica, who came down and helped by timekeeping this morning.

The results of the run will be kept secret until the announcement of the winner of the season and the presentation of the "Rob and Jodi Clark" trophy in a few weeks. All I can say is that after the handicaps were added back onto people's times this morning, there were some very close finishes.

One person was within 15 seconds of their Personal Best, but no-one ran a PB this week.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY MORNING 3 September at 7:30 am.

The start/finish line is at the gazebo at the bottom of Stiggant's Reserve, near the lizard statue.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 379 and 380

Run 379

There were 13 starters down by the river on this cold morning, running all distances today (2, 3, 4 and 5 km). Thanks to Jozica for timing this morning.

A beautifully timed run from Renee saw her come in just one second after the 30 minute mark, earning her maximum points today, a mere two seconds ahead of Alicia, with Jacinta only just behind rounding out the top three. Louanna ran well into fourth place, just ahead of Nada and Atsuko (who are fighting it out for the top of the consistency table this season). James and Monica were in seventh and eighth places respectively and then Adrienne, Jon, Peter and Tessa. Paul walked his dogs on the 2 km track and was the only person at that distance this week.

There were two people who managed to beat their Personal Best time at their chosen distance this week:
Well done to Renee who beat her previous PB by 51 seconds, and
Louanna, who beat her PB by 27 seconds.

One other person was within 15 seconds of their PB:
Congratulations Jacinta.

Run 380

It was wet underfoot (and when running through the puddles, James) this morning, but the rain held off for 11 starters this morning. Many thanks to Monica for coming down to do the time-keeping today.

Nada was back on track, managing to be first over the line for the fourth time this season, and leapfrogging back into top position ahead of Atsuko, setting up for an exciting final run of the season next week. James was only seconds behind in second position, with Atsuko in third place today. Renee and Adrienne had a sprint finish together, but since Adrienne had started early her handicap had to be added on leaving Renee in fourth place. Jon and Dennis were also close together over the line, And Adrienne, Jacinta and Peter rounded out the field in the longer distances. Paul managed a light jog this morning over the 2 km course and Jozica went for a walk.

No-one was within 15 seconds of their PB this week, and no-one ran a personal best time.

Next week will be the last run of the season, and as has been the tradition, everyone will begin from scratch and the handicaps will be added on after the race so that we can keep the final winner of the season a surprise until it is announced in a few weeks.

The run will be on 26 August and everyone will start at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Sunday, August 6, 2017

Run 378

There were 9 starters this morning and it was great to see Renee back for another run today. Thanks to Nada for running early and then doing the timing for us this week. Lots of people needed to go early today, so we ended up having a mass start with nearly everyone starting at the same time so that handicaps were then added to the final results to come up with today's placings.

First over the line after the 30 minute mark today ended up being Atsuko in a brilliantly timed run (she and Tessa had a sprint finish, but as they ran different distances and handicaps had to be added). Atsuko's time and win gave her the maximum points for the run and has boosted her in to first position on the consistency ladder with three runs to go in this season. Second place today went to Nada, just ahead of Renee. Jacinta and Adrienne were a bit further back in the field and Jozica and Tessa managed to come in with only one second between them. Peter was back to running the 3 km distance after a few weeks of recovering and keeping the times for us, and Paul walked the 2 km course again.

There was one person who managed to obtain a Personal Best time over their chosen distance today:
Congratulations to Atsuko who beat her previous PB by 7 seconds.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday morning 12 August at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 377

This week saw the return of our French visitor, Mathis, and also we welcomed a new runner, Renee, to the group. We hope to see you again! Thanks again to Peter for doing the timekeeping this week.

There were 11 starters this week, with three runners/walkers on the 2 km track. Mathis was the first back over the finish line followed by Louanna and Paul. In the longer distances, Jon was out like a rocket this week and was first over the line after the 30 minute mark, closely followed by Atsuko and Alicia. Renee ran the 4 km distance and her time brought her in in fourth place today. Nada was next and Tessa and Jozica ran the home stretch together until Tessa went for her usual sprint home. Jacinta rounded out today's field.

It was a milestone day for Paul who has completed his 200th event this morning.

There were two runners who managed personal best times this morning over their chosen distances:
Mathis beat last week's time by 38 seconds for the 2 km course, and
Atsuko took 1 second off her previous best 5 km time.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 6 August at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 376

It was great to have our first French visitor running with us this morning. Welcome to Mathis who is a French exchange student staying with Louanna while he is in Australia. Mathis ran the 2 km distance this morning with Louanna while Paul walked that distance. Hopefully this wont be the last time we see you at River Runners.

Seven others started out in the longer (handicapped) distances this week and we saw a beautifully timed run from Atsuko to see her first over the line after the 30 minute mark. Nada is still the one to beat this season and she ran into second position, just ahead of Tessa with Alicia in fourth. There was only one second separating Jon and Jacinta in fifth and sixth positions respectively, and Harrison rounded out the field today, running a 3 km distance.

There was no-one who ran their Personal Best time over their chosen distance this week, but one person was within 15 seconds of their PB:
well run Atsuko!

Next week the run will be on Saturday 29 July at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 375

There were seven brave starters down by the river to run 2, 3, 4 or 5 km this morning in the cold. Thanks to Peter who came down to keep the times again this morning.

Paul was the only competitor who took to the 2 km and walked with his dogs today. In the longer (handicapped) distances, James took the lead this morning and managed to be the first person home after the 30 minute mark, earning him the first position points for the first time this season. Nada came in second and continues to sit at the top of the leaderboard for another season. Steve, who pulled out after 3 km due to an injury, managed a commendable third place with his 3 km time, and Jon, Tessa and Jacinta rounded out the field.

No-one was within 15 seconds of their personal best time over their chosen distance this morning and no-one managed to beat their PB either. It must have been too cold.

Next week the run will be at 7:30 am on Saturday 22 July. The start/finish line is at the pergola near the lizard sculpture at the bottom of Stiggants Reserve.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 374

Eight people braved the cold to come down for the run/walk along the banks of the Yarra in Warrandyte this week. Thanks to Peter for coming along to be timekeeper again this week.

Monica was back with a vengeance in a perfectly timed 5 km run, she was first over the line and just after the 30 minute mark - well done. Steve ran into second place and Tessa was in third, just ahead of Nada (who continues to lead the points table for the season). Jozica and Jacinta were the last runners in from the longer distances. Over the shorter (2 km) distance, Louanna was the first home and Paul walked the dogs again.

There was no-one who ran a PB this week, but Monica was within 15 seconds of her PB for the 5 km distance.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 15 July at 7:30 am.

Run 373

I've just realised I hadn't updated the details from last week's run and thought I'd better get onto that before we run again tomorrow.

It was a cold morning and that seems to have kept away a few runners, so that there were only 7 starters and the temperature seems to have slowed down the times as well this week!

Nada ran fastest over the longer distances and came in first after the 30 minute mark. This has moved her to the top of the consistency table again - great running Nada. Alicia ran into second position just ahead of Tessa. Helen and Peter took out the fourth and fifth places respectively and Jozica was last over the line. Paul is still trying to figure out his injury and walked the 2 km course with his dogs.

No-one was within 15 seconds of their PB this week and no-one ran a personal best time for their chosen distance.

Next week (tomorrow) the run will be on Saturday 8 July at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Saturday, June 24, 2017

Run 372

There were 12 starters for the run along the river this morning, with eight people running the shorter 2 km course leaving only four for the longer (handicapped) distances, so everyone started together and the handicaps were added in later.

The result of the handicap system meant that Jozica has taken out the win today, followed by Tessa, Jacinta and Peter. In the 2 km distance, Ben blitzed through the course coming in first, Ed and Caitlyn were within 10 seconds of each other for second and third place, and Sam and Jon were next in. Margaret continues to improve her times and Atsuko and Harrison walked the distance while Harrison still has his arm in plaster.

There were three runners who managed to improve their personal best times over their chosen distances today:
Well done to Caitlyn, Sam and Jon.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Next week the run will be on Sunday 2 July at 7:30 am as Saturday is a market day.

Run 371

It was great to see Sam back running the 2 km course again, and thanks to Peter for doing the timing again this week.

There were 10 people starting out on all of the distances (2, 3, 4 and 5 km). In the shortest course, Caitlyn came home first followed by Margaret, with Jon and Sam just behind. In the longer, handicapped, runs it was Nada who once again took out the win this week. She came in ahead of Atsuko and Steve, with Jozica, Jacinta and Tessa rounding out the field.

Three people managed to beat their previous personal best times for the distances they ran today. Well done to:
Caitlyn, who beat her previous personal best by 1 minute 35 seconds;
Sam, who took 1 minute and 25 seconds off his previous PB; and
Jon, who reduced his 2 km PB by 1 minute 45 seconds.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 24 June at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 370

It was great to see 12 starters down at the starting line on a cold Warrandyte morning. Thanks so much to Peter for coming along to do the timing fro us this morning. We welcomed back Adrienne for her first run in a while.

Ed and Margaret took off for the 2 km run this morning, and Ed was the first person home today. In the longer (handicapped) distances, the first person home today was Jacinta but unfortunately she had run too fast and came in before the 30 minute mark and was considered a breaker this morning. That left the win, in a well-timed run, to Jozica, followed over the line by Tessa. Caitlyn ended up in third position this morning , only seconds ahead of Ben who ran his first 3 km distance with us today. Steve was only seconds behind them, closely followed by Atsuko and Nada. The handicap system seemed to work very well this morning, with six people coming in within 30 seconds of each other! Adrienne and Paul rounded out the field in the main competition this morning.

There was only one personal best time recorded this morning:
Well run Jacinta who took another 24 seconds off her previous best time.

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB this week.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 17 June at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 369

There were 10 starters running the 3, 4 and 5 km course this weekend. We welcomed back Sandi who hasn't run with us for a while.

Everyone took off for a mass start as the temperature was a bit too chilly to stand around waiting for handicaps, so after all of the handicaps have been added onto the times the results were: Sandi took on the 3 km course for the first time and managed to come in first place and earned herself the maximum 20 points - well done! Jozica was only three seconds behind in second place and Atsuko just seven seconds behind her. James was not too far back in fourth position this morning. Jacinta and Steve were close together in their times and were followed by Monica, Tessa, Nada and Peter.

We congratulated Atsuko on reaching 150 runs - a fantastic effort.

No-one was within 15 seconds of their PB and no-one ran a personal best time for their distance this week.

Next week the run will be on 10 June at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 368

There were 9 starters running over all of the distances on offer (2, 3, 4 and 5 km) this week. Thanks to Peter for doing the timing this week.

Atsuko had a perfectly timed run, coming in just after the 30 minute mark and winning the points for first place this week. Alicia was back again and ran well to take out second place, ahead of Nada who drew for third place with Jacinta who took on the 3km distance. Peter was in fifth place just one second ahead of Paul, who was just in front of Helen. Tessa finished off the runners in the longer distances. Harrison walked the 2 km distance with his broken arm.

There was one person within 15 seconds of their personal best time this week:
well done to Atsuko.

No-one else ran their PB this week.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 4 June at 7:30 due to the Warrandyte Market on Saturday.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 367

There were 8 runners starting out on the 3, 4 and 5 km courses this week. Thanks to Peter for doing the timings.

Caitlyn took off like a rocket and ended up being first over the line this week, but she went too quickly and came in before the 30 minute mark, so missed out on maximum points. The first person in after the 30 minute mark and therefore winner for this week was Angela. Atsuko raced through the course to come in second and Steve ran into third place. Nada and Tessa were within one second of each other, with Nada managing to just take the lead. Jacinta and Paul rounded out the runners for this week.

There were two personal best times recorded this week:
Well done Caitlyn who took 45 seconds off her previous PB, and
Angela who took 15 seconds off her previous PB.

After the run, we had the awarding of the trophies, prizes and ribbons for last season. In the junior section, the winner was Harrison and second place went to Amelia - great running, guys. In the open section, the winner for Season 22 was Nada, and the runner up was Jacinta.

This week the run will be on Saturday 27 May at 7:30 am.

New runners and /or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 366

There were 9 starters by the river for the 366th run of the Warrandyte River Runners. Thanks to Steve for doing the timings this morning.

Ed and Louanna took off on the 2 km course this morning and both ran very well, with Ed coming in first. In the longer distances several people took off at times other than their handicaps and had to have the ties adjusted accordingly. After the correct handicaps were added, it turned out that Nada had won the points for today, closely followed by Atsuko. Jon managed to come in third place. Paul was a little way back and then came Jacinta, Tessa and Peter.

No-one managed to run a personal best time today over their chosen distance, but Nada was within 15 seconds of her PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 20 May at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 364

The rain held off for the last run of Season 22 of Warrandyte River Runners. Thanks again to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping for today's run.

A field of 12 runners took off at 7:30 this morning in the last run of the season. After the addition of the handicaps, it turned out to be a very close run. Nada was pipped at the post by Caitlyn in her first win of the season winning by a margin of 2 seconds. Only seconds behind them was Jon closely followed by Atsuko. A little further back was another close group, with James coming in fifth position, only 3 seconds ahead of Jacinta who in turn was 15 seconds ahead of Steve. Peter, Tessa and Paul rounded out the field for the longer distances. Over the 2 km course, Ed was the fastest and Louanna continues to improve her times.

There was one personal best time recorded today:
Well done to Louanna who beat her previous 2 km best by 1 minute and 2 seconds.

One person manage to run within 15 seconds of their PB:
Well run Ed.

Next week will be the start of Season 23, and we will run on Sunday 7 May at 7:30.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 363

There were 8 starters for the second last run of this season on Saturday. Thanks to Nada for running early and keeping the times for us.

Jacinta ran out very well and managed to run a little too fast this week, coming in before the 30 minute mark and therefore breaking. That left the win for this week to be taken out by Harrison - well done! Nada came in second position and was just ahead of Jon's time. Paul and Atsuko rounded out the longer distances. Caitlyn and Margaret took off for the 2 km course, and Caitlyn managed to be the first home over this distance. Well done to the kids this week.

There were 2 personal best times recorded this week:
well done to both Jacinta and Caitlyn.

No-one else was within 15 second of their personal best.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 29 April at 7:30 am. As it is the last race of the season, it will be a mass start with everyone leaving at 7:30 so please try to be on time.

Runs 361 and 362

Having been away on holiday, I haven't had the chance to update until now - Sorry!

I have updated the Consistency table and results for the last two races on this page. Nada is out in front on the leaderboard at the moment, but Jacinta, Atsuko and Louanna could all take over in the last two runs of the season. Remember that only your best ten runs in a season can count towards the consistency points.

In run 361 there were three PBs record:
Angela, Ed and Louanna.

And one person managed to run within 15 seconds of their PB:
Ben.

I will write a report for the next run.

The next run will be on Saturday 22 April at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 360

There were 13 people starting off the run by the river this weekend, with at least one person running each of the distances: 2, 3, 4 and 5 km. Thanks to Atsuko who came down to do the timing for us (even if she got a bit confused about daylight savings changes).

Many people were flying through the course today and we saw 2 people attain their personal best times this morning and one other was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Ed was the only person today to take off on the 2 km course, and he powered through the distance this morning. The first four across the line in the longer distances were all within 20 seconds for a very tight finish. In the end it was Jon who crossed the line first and Helen managed to beat off Angela for second across the finish line. Unfortunately they had all come in just before the 30 minute mark (Angela by only 2 seconds!), so that left the win for today to Paul who came in just after. Nada scored second place, with Alicia taking out third position. Jacinta was just ahead of Monica and James who came in within one second of each other. Tessa, Amelia and Harrison rounded out the field in today's run.

The two Personal Best times today were recorded by:
Angela who beat her precious PB by 28 seconds, and
Helen who managed to take 38 seconds off her previous PB.

Ed was within 15 seconds of his PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday morning 8 April at 7:30 am. Please note the change of time from the end of Daylight Savings. All runs (both Saturday and Sunday) will now start at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 359

Only four people showed up for the Thursday evening run before the festival, so they all took off together at 6:30. Thanks to Caitlin (Amelia's sister) who helped out with time keeping.

After he handicaps were added back in, it turned out to be a win for Peter this week, with Jacinta and James in the minor positions. Amelia chose to run the 2 km course.

Next week the run will be on Sunday at 7:30 am, don't forget that daylight savings ends at 2:00 am Sunday morning, so you will need to change your clocks back or you will be there an hour early!!

No PBs and no-one within 15 seconds of their PB this week

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 357 and 358

A slight hiccough with the database meant that I was not able to update the blog site last week, but here are the last two weeks' results.

Run 357

There were 11 finishers running and walking all of the distances (2km, 3km, 4km and 5km) today.

In the shortest distance, Amelia was first over the line followed by Caitlyn (who did some walking of the dogs as well as running) and Paul and Margaret walked the dogs along the river.

In the longer distances, Louanna blitzed the 3km course, being the first over the line, but came in just under the 30 minute mark and so was considered a breaker today. That left the win for the day to Peter, who came in just ahead of Nada's time. Jozica and Jacinta had a very close finish, and Jon and Tessa rounded out the field in the "main event".

One person managed to beat their previous Personal Best time over their chosen distance:
Well done Louanna for beating your previous PB by 42 seconds

No-one else was within 15 seconds of their PB this week.

Run 358

Thee were people everywhere this morning, with 16 finishers over all of the distances. Atsuko was certainly kept busy with the timing of today's run with lots of people finishing within seconds of each other.

In this big field, Ben, Ed and Paul ran the 2km course, with Ben winning over this distance convincingly.

In the handicapped event, Louanna again continues to run very well, timing her run this week to come in just after the 30 minute mark and taking out the win today, but only 3 seconds ahead of Nada, with Helen and Angela another 10 seconds behind. Jon was next over the line, ahead of Tessa who nudged out Jozica for bonus points which only go to the top 6 places. Peter was only 9 seconds back from them, and Jacinta just behind. Amelia and Steve were next finishers and Adrienne and Harrison rounded out the field over the longer distances.

There were two personal best records broken today:
Louanna continues to improve each week, beating last weeks PB by another 18 seconds, and
Helen beat her previous PB by 5 seconds.

Three people were within 15 seconds of their PB:
well done to Nada, Angela and Paul

Next week the run will be on THURSDAY EVENING at 6:30 pm due to the Warrandyte Festival occurring over the weekend.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 356

It was a very warm evening that saw eight starters in this week's run along the Yarra. We welcomed Ben for his first run with the group today and hope to see him running with us on some weekends as well. Thanks to Nada for doing the timing this week.

There were three runners this week of the shorter 2 km course and Ben was way out in front, coming in ahead of Ed and Harrison. In the longer distances, Monica was first over the line after the 30 minute mark followed quite closely by Atsuko. Nada took out third place and Amelia and Jacinta were the final runners over the line.

There were no personal best times recorded this week and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

The points table is looking very close this season, with Nada nudging ahead by 2 points at the moment and Jacinta and Atsuko very close behind. As people begin to run more than ten runs in the season, don't forget that only the top ten runs for that season will count towards your total.

Next week the run will be on Saturday morning, 11 March,  at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 355

It was a cooler morning that saw 12 starters for the run today. Thanks to Peter for starting us off at our allocated handicap times and to Monica for being there for the finishing times. Welcome back to Mark who we haven't seen running with us for quite a while. This morning's run on the 3 km and 5 km course had the added obstruction of running through the setting up of the pottery expo along the edge of the track. After points were allocated for today's run the top three runners are all within seven points of each other - looks like it may be close as we are now half way though this season.

The times this morning were quite fast and there was a sprint home between the two leading runners, resulting in Atsuko being first over the line, but being just a second too quick and breaking. That left the win in a perfectly timed 30 minute finish time to Nada, with Jacinta only 10 seconds behind her. Louanna continues to run well (even if she wasn't feeling the best) and managed third place today, coming in below 30:30. Mark had a very good run for his first time out with us in a while, coming in fourth place today.

Jon and Dennis ended up only 3 seconds apart and a little way ahead of Tessa. Jozica ran will into eighth position only just ahead of Amelia and Paul was last of the line today (after his handicap was adjusted). Ed was back after an injury and was the only person who ran the 2 km course this morning.

The cooler weather obviously made it easier for running, with three people managing their personal best times this morning:
Atsuko beat her previous best time by 7 seconds (and ran under 23 minutes for the 5 km course for the first time - great running Atsu!)
Jacinta beat her previous PB by 12 seconds, and
Louanna took an amazing 36 seconds off her previous best 3 km run time.

One runner was within 15 seconds of their previous PB:
Well done Nada.

Our next run will be on THURSDAY EVENING at 6:30 pm as there will be the market next Saturday morning and Run Warrandyte on Sunday.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 354

It was great to see Louanna back again this week and stepping up to the 3 km distance along with another 11 starters. Thanks so much to Peter for timekeeping again this week.

There were many people running off later or earlier than their allocated handicaps, so the computer had a bit of adjusting to do to compensate. After all of the adjustments were made, I can declare that Monica was the winner on the day, coming in at 30 minutes and 31 seconds. Jacinta was not very far behind her and Louanna in her first 3 km run came in third place, only one second ahead of Atsuko. Nada and Tessa were the only others to come in before 32 minutes. Steve and Jozica came in ahead of Paul and Amelia. Jon and Harrison completed the field

Jacinta is sitting on top o fate Consistency Ladder after 7 runs this season, 9 points clear of Atsuko. As people begin to run more than ten runs in the season, only their best ten results will be recorded, so the field is still very open.

No-one ran a personal best time this week, and Monica was the only person to run within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 25 February at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Advance Notice: The weekend of Run Warrandyte, 5 March, we will be unable to run on the Saturday (Market Day) or the Sunday (Run Warrandyte), so we will run instead on the Thursday evening at 6:30 pm (TBC).

Saturday, February 11, 2017

Run 353

It was a very warm morning that saw 11 people starting out running 2, 3, 4 or 5 km along the Yarra. Thanks to Peter for doing the timekeeping again today, and a very big welcome to Louanna for her first run with the group. Hopefully we will see her back again soon.

Louanna took off on her first run on the 2 km course and was the only person running that distance this morning. In the longer distances, Jacinta was first over the line after the 30 minute mark and picked up her second win for the season. Nada narrowly beat Atsuko into second place today with Monica and Jozica working hard to come in fourth and fifth. After some handicap adjusting, Paul managed to just beat Jon, with Amelia not far behind them. Steve and Harrison rounded out the placings for the day.

No-one managed a personal best today and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

After the run, we had the presentations for last season:

In the kids section:
Winner: Ameila 62 points from 8 runs
Runner up: Caitlyn 44 points from 6 runs

In the open section:
Winner: Nada 96 points from 14 runs
Runner up: Monica 90 points from 12 runs

That is the third season in a row that Nada has won. Congratulations!

Net week the run will be on Saturday 18 February at 7:00 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 352

It was a lovely morning for a run along the banks of the Yarra River in Warrandyte on the weekend. Thanks to Peter for doing the timekeeping this week for the ten starters who came down to run 3, 4 or 5 km distances.

First over the line this week was Jozica in only her second run for this season. Amelia came in second after running her first ever 4 km distance. She was just a few seconds ahead of Atsuko. Dennis managed to get home ahead of Paul who had dropped back to a 3 km distance for this week. Adrienne just kept running after running down to meet us at the starting point, and came in sixth place. Jacinta, Tessa, Monica and Harrison rounded out the field today.

There were no personal best times recorded this week and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 11 February at 7:00 am. After the run we hope to present the trophies and medals to our winners from last season.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

Run 351

It was great to see three new runners at the river for this week's run: welcome to Emma, Heidi and Tom. Many thanks to Peter for doing the timing this morning, too.

This morning was Atsuko's morning to shine - a perfectly timed run to come in just after the 30 minute mark. Once Tom's handicap was adjusted for the 3 km run, he ended up in second place, just ahead of Nada. Monica and Jacinta were fighting out for fourth place. Harrison, running 3 km, was only seconds ahead of Caitlyn and Heidi running the 4 km distance this week. Paul continues to improve his times after coming back from injury. Emma was the only person running the 2 km course this week.

No-one ran a personal best time over their chosen distance this week and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week the run will be on SUNDAY 5 February at 7:30 am as there is a market on Saturday.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.

We hope to have our Season 21 presentations on Saturday 11 February after the run.

Runs 349 and 350

Having been away for last week's run, I am updating today for both last week and this week.

RUN 349

Seven people showed up this morning for the run along the banks of the Yarra in Warrandyte, with people running each of the distances on offer (2, 3, 4 and 5 km).

This morning saw Nada take out the win in the longer distances, being the first over the line after the 30 minute mark with Atsuko and Jozica in second and third places respectively. Tessa, Jacinta and Harrison rounding out the long course results. Dennis ran the 2 km course this week for the first time.

No-one managed to run a personal best time for their allocated distance this week and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

RUN 350

Thanks to Atsuko for time-keeping today. This morning saw 11 people running over all of the distances, and Jacinta managed to hold on for her first win of the season. Angela came in second, just ahead of Will who in turn was just a second ahead of Nada and Peter after an adjustment on his handicap. Monica was not very far back from this group. Tessa and Amelia had a sprint finish between them in which Tessa managed to just hold on, with Steve only a short way behind. Paul rounded out the runners over the longer distances. Harrison had set out for a 3 km run, but after a fall decided to only run the 2 km course instead.

Again this week there was no-one who ran their PB for their chosen distance and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

New runners and/or walkers are always welcome at any stage during the season. Come down and join us at the start/finish line opposite the lizard statue below Stiggants Reserve.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 28 January at 7:00 am.

Dennis started off the new year with a well timed run, coming in just after the 30 minute mark. He was well ahead of second place getter, Angela. Atsuko managed to just hold off a late surge from Peter. Nada finished in fifth place just ahead of Paul and Jacinta, Jon and Harrison rounded out the field today.

Nobody managed to run a personal best time today and no-one was within 15 seconds of their PB.
