Run 734

It was another beautiful morning along the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River), with milder temperatures making for perfect running conditions. Eight participants turned out for this week’s run through scenic Warrandyte.

It was great to welcome back Jozica and Colin after Jozica’s time away. A big thank you to Colin for taking on the timekeeping duties this week.

This Week’s Run Results

Monica was the first runner across the line today. However, as she finished under the 30-minute mark, she’s listed as a breaker for this week and is not eligible for placings.

That left the win open for Jon, who held off a fast-finishing Paul to take first place by just 15 seconds. Atsuko ran strongly into third position, while Tony edged out Dave to claim fourth. Jozica and Nada completed the field with steady efforts.

Personal Bests

There were two PBs recorded this week:

  • Monica smashed her previous best by 1 minute and 15 seconds.
  • Paul equalled his previous personal best.
No other runners were within 15 seconds of their PB this week.

Season 47 Final Results

After the run, we celebrated the conclusion of Season 47 with the presentation of prizes.

  • Congratulations to Atsuko, who topped the leaderboard with 119 points from 13 runs (only the best 10 count), including five wins throughout the season.
  • Paul claimed second place with 105 points from 15 runs, including four wins.

Well done to all 11 runners who participated during Season 47 – your consistency and commitment are what make this group so enjoyable and inspiring.

Run 733

What a difference a week makes! It was a beautiful Spring morning today, with the temperature sitting comfortably around 19°C as six runners set off along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra through Warrandyte.

A big thank you to Atsuko, who kindly handled timekeeping duties before heading out for her own run once everyone else had finished.

In the first run of the new season, Paul was the first across the line this week, but he set off too quickly and finished in under 30 minutes meaning he’s broken for this week. That left the win open for Tony, who crossed the line ahead of Nada in second place. Dave secured third, just seven seconds ahead of Atsuko, while Jon rounded out the field as the final finisher.

No personal best times were recorded this week, but Paul managed to finish within 15 seconds of his PB.

Next week’s run will take place on Saturday, 13 September, with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and walkers are always welcome—feel free to join us anytime during the season!

Run 729 and 730

Run 729

It was a chilly morning for our weekly run along the banks of the Birrarung/Yarra through Warrandyte, with just three starters this week. A big thank you to Nada, who continues to run early so she can take on the timekeeping duties most weeks.

With only three participants and Nada having already completed her run, we decided not to start based on handicap times. Instead, these were added afterward. This saw Paul take out the win—just one second ahead of Jon—with Nada finishing in third place.

No one managed a personal best this week, and no one finished within 15 seconds of their PB.

Run 730

The rain held off for this week's run, although the riverside track remained damp. Six runners took part in our Warrandyte circuit. Thanks again to Nada for running early and managing the timekeeping.

Paul was first across the line again this week, followed closely by James—just six seconds behind. Sandi ran well into third, just ahead of Dave in fourth. Atsuko and Nada rounded out the field, finishing just eight seconds apart.

As with last week, no one achieved a personal best, and no one finished within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next Week’s Run

The next run will be held on Saturday, 23 August, with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome to join at any stage during the season!

Thunderball Gala – Tonight!

The “Thunderball” Gala Ball is on tonight (16 August), raising funds for the Manningham SES. Two of our regular runners, Sandi and Margaret, have played a major role on the organising committee, and we wish them every success for the event.

The evening will feature a silent auction, which is also available online. There are many great items up for grabs, including vouchers for OlivignaEmber, and Beasley’s Nursery, and wine packs from Kellybrook.

Run 727

It was a relatively warm morning for this week’s run along the banks of the Birrarung/Yarra through Warrandyte. Many thanks to Atsuko for taking on the timekeeping duties today.

The handicaps worked well this week, with many runners finishing close together and a few exciting sprint finishes. Sandi was first across the line, closely followed by Paul just one second behind, and James only a few seconds later in third. Unfortunately for the top three, they crossed the line just before the 30-minute mark, meaning they were all classified as breaking.

In a true "Steven Bradbury" moment, Dave—who finished fourth—was the first runner after the 30-minute threshold, making him this week’s official winner (and on his birthday, no less!). Tony followed just eight seconds later in second place. Jon rounded out the field as the last runner over the line.

With a strong finish, one personal best was recorded this week—congratulations to Sandi for shaving 36 seconds off your previous PB! No other runners finished within 15 seconds of their best times.

Next week’s run will take place on Sunday, 3 August, with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and walkers are welcome to join at any point during the season!

Today's run saw seven starters in the race along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra through Warrandyte. Thanks to Atsuko for doing the time-keeping duties before going for her run after everyone had finished.

Many runners chose to start early today, so there were quite a few handicaps that needed to be added after the race had finished. After the times had been calculated, it was Margaret who took out her second win for the season. Today she came in at exactly 30 minutes, with a personal best time giving her the maximum 20 points for this run. Paul was in second place with Atsuko only 8 seconds behind him, and Dave a close fourth. Monica ran into fifth place today with Tony in sixth. Jon was the last runner over the line.

Once the handicaps were added in and times adjusted the results were: first runner over the line was Jozica who had run too quickly this week and has been classified as a breaker for coming in before the 30 minute mark. Once the handicaps were added on to times, it was Margaret who was the first runner over the line today, but she came in before the 30 minute mark and has been classed as a breaker this week. Run 709

It was a beautiful morning for a run along the banks of the Birrarung-Yarra through Warrandyte this morning before the predicted heat of today. Thanks to Jozica and Colin for coming along this morning to do the timekeeping duties this week.

After the handicaps were added on to some of the runs and start times adjusted according to the time sheet the results this week had Jon come over the line in first place in a beautifully timed run, finishing just two seconds after the 30 minute mark. It was a real tussle for second place with Dave coming in just one second before Atsuko, but as she had left the start line a second later than her handicap this has resulted in a draw for second place! Margaret came in fourth place this week ahead of Nada in fifth position. Tony was only 15 seconds back in sixth. James ran well into seventh position and Sandi took out eighth. Paul was the last runner over the line this week.

There was a random number draw with the number chosen being 6, meaning our sixth place runner, Tony, wins himself a new pair of socks. Congratulations.

Next week the run will be on Saturday 25 January with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

We are aiming to have our presentations for Season 45 after the run the following week on Sunday 2 February, followed by a breakfast at a local cafe (details to follow).

Run 699

It was quite a warm morning as seven people started out in the first run of 2025. Many thanks to Nada for running early and doing the time-keeping duties this week.

There were two people who took on the unhandicapped 2 km distance this week: Margaret and Sandi. In the longer distances, Paul was the first runner over the line, ahead of Nada. Renee took out third place with James in fourth position. Alex was the final runner over the line today.

Nobody managed a personal best and no one was within 15 seconds of their PB.

Next week will be the 700th run for the River Runners and we will be running on Saturday 11 January with the timer starting at 7:30 am.

New runners and/or walkers are welcome at any stage during the season.
